Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement.
His major works include paintings, murals, sketches and other art objects, many of which are on display in the Vienna Secession gallery. Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism-nowhere is this more apparent than in his numerous drawings in pencil.
One of his most famous paintings is 'The Kiss' but I would like to show you some of his landscape works here...thank you K9 for reminding me how much I admire these paintings.

Pretty pictures.

Lovely. I knew some of his work but not the landscapes. The apple tree is interesting - the fruit and leaves are the same tonal shade - with an odd effect.

So pleased you liked them my dear Lil Lambie , I would love to go there and wander through the landscape. ♡

Yes Lee dear they are lovely and his tonal effects both with the apple tree and the other paintings are interesting, a lot of work with colour and texture there...some resemble the works of Seurat with the many dots of colours then others flow more freely.
I think most people identify Klimt with his more erotic paintings of females and aren't aware of the landscape paintings. ♡

Dianne- thanks for visiting my site.

I think the paintings are beautiful- and just in time for spring!

I do not study art, so I have no insightful comment to add, I just appreciate great art when I see it.

Thanks for visiting me too Sherri ...no insightful comments required here, anything goes my dear.

Some works of art just grab my attention, whether it be the colours or subject...I really love these landscapes. ♡

thank you. they are spectacular arent they? what he captures is the "aliveness" of land...there are some paintings of thick woods too....and he paints that thing where the trees are so thick that when sunlight shines through it - its bright like a star cause so much light has to travel through a narrow channel. brilliant!

I'm pleased that you liked them K9 my dear, I have seen the other paintings of the thick woods with a shimmer of light shining through, also the birch trees with autumn foliage on the ground, gosh so many more but I ran out of space here.
I think these are delightful paintings, the colours are alive you feel as if you could just step into the painting.
Thanks for reminding me, I went through my art books last night and found some beautiful paintings which I will post in the future. ♡

when
he got
it right,

i've always loved gustave klimt ..
i've been to vienna and was lucky to have seen several of his pieces .. there .. as well as elsewhere ...
(some of this stuff that i've seen in europe just comes from the fact that i lived there for years)

its okay foamy. they havent yet started the torch and pitchfork bus tours to gawk at people who can afford to travel. grrrrrrherhahahahahaha

darkfoam said...

why not? we could start the torch and pitchfork tours and follow high fallutin' executives around that vacation on our tax dollars ..

Yes /t. my dear Klimt is a very diverse painter, I just happen to favour his landscapes. ♡

I am aware of his other fine works such as his drawings and his paintings illuminated with gold, I do like the beautiful women he painted in 'aquamossa',they are dream like figures, also 'expectation' and 'fulfillment' also known as 'the embrace' which were part of his 'tree of life' and 'mother and child'. I think 'the kiss' is beautiful for its use of colour and gold, but she looks so delicate in comparison to the man, who to me looks rather 'brutish'. ♡

Foamie my dear friend you are so fortunate to have lived in Europe and travelled so much, you get to see so much beauty and broaden your horizons.
That is another of my regrets, that I married at such a young age...no it wasn't a shotgun wedding :-), I was all booked to sail to England when I met my charming naval officer husband...I was in love or thought so and didn't want to lose him nor him me...so those romantic notions of mine can get you into all kinds of trouble.
Much better to be practical like you and really live a life.
I'm pleased that you too admire the works of Klimt. ♡

Now K9 & Foamie, whats all this about torch and pitchfork bus tours for people who can afford to travel?
Gosh it is so expensive to go anywhere now, not just the airfares but the accommodation.
I do have relatives in Britain but you cant just turn up on their doorstep.
There are a few places I would like to visit but I think it will be budget airfares, bed & breakfast stays or maybe I'll hit the road with my tent. Lol, now that would be a sight to behold for a girl who likes the comforts of home and hot showers. ♡

sorry, dianne .. lol ..
i was just poking fun at all our tax dollars going to bailout these companies like AIG who then give massive bonuses to executives who then are able to afford to travel in luxury ..

i did all my traveling in europe on a shoestring ..
a backpack, train tickets, staying with friends (in the case of vienna) or in cheap, cheap accommodations ..

dianne said...

Thanks for that Foamie, I think that your way is the better way to travel as you see so much more than the inside of luxury hotels.

If I had gone to Britain with my friends that's how we would have been doing it, on a shoestring.
We were going to travel to Europe and Ireland as well and work to pay our way, oh to be young again, what an adventure it would have been. ♡

the torch and pitchfork tour is real. oh yeah, on this very day, bus tours to take *i dont know who* to see where AIG execs LIVE! its very creepy. these guys have been getting death threats.

but nevermind about all that. better to soak up a lovely landscape or two...

Gosh K9 my dear its a strange world we live in, so much ugliness, hate and danger in some places.

Yes you are so right there is so much beauty and love around and much better to soak up these lovely landscapes and your beautiful art works...they make me feel happy. ♡

Fantastic, but the last painting isn't his. I did that one, just never got the credit for it. In fact many of Mr. VanGogh's paintings were mine as well from back when I was a ghost painter. Most of the "artists" were too jacked up on absinthe to actually paint so they hired guys like me, or in desperate case a cage full of chimps with temperas to do the work. Little known fact.

dianne said...

Phossy my dear, you are so cute, I could believe that you could paint like that.
I think a lot of the paintings attributed to these artists were painted by their students; gosh what an awful lifestyle they had, probably hung over from the effects of absinthe, opium and those strong french cigarettes...very unhealthy. ♡

Undoubtedly Gustav Klimt is one of the great masters, with an unmistakable personal style. My favorite from this wonderful series is the second with these beautiful flowers, a masterpiece. Besos.

dianne said...

Thanks dear Leovi , yes Gustav Klimt had his own unique style of painting landscapes, his painting of the flowers is lovely... I am so pleased that you enjoyed these works of art.
Besos
