JUST FOR FUN

The Lovers
Marc Chagall (1887 - 1985)

The song 'Bruises', as in love and other bruises...the things we sometimes have to do to get someone's attention...is it worth it? Well I'm still trying to figure that out...

Ms. Dianne,

I very much like the plate presented here as well as the melancholic refrain of which I gave my full attention.

Despite the obliging notice you were so kind as to take of my trifling observations in the natural way, nothing could have emboldened me to have entered into a correspondence with you in which, though my vanity cannot suggest to me that I shall send you any information truly worthy of your attention, yet the communication of my thoughts to you appear'd to have met with vital interest on your part & thus further consideration by your good self will be unavoidably attended with much satisfaction & improvement on my side.

I Remain Yours, &c.,
Colonel Brandon.

Puggles my sweet, I hoped you would enjoy the painting for all of its merits. ♥
The goat is perched on a hill overlooking his city of Vence, I think he is rather sweet. ♥

Dude, the goat's minding his own business, we shant be afraid of him.

Dearest /t. , any resemblance to me and the girl in the painting is purely coincidental but thank you anyway. ♥

I have long been an admirer of Chagall's art, I love the bright colours, the unusual subject matter and the symbolism. ♥

His use of farm animals in his paintings alludes to his memories and fantasies from childhood, visits to his uncles farm where he knew every animal by name. The goat is a Jewish symbol for the day of atonement.
There is a lot of love, religion and poetry in his paintings.
He is quoted as saying "In art and life, everything is possible as long as it is based on love". ♥
------------------
Love or friendship shouldn't have to be a 'blood sport' for if it is real and sincere it should be shared freely without conditions,or withholding affection, nor should it be a game of one mind over the other.

Thank you ander for your contribution to my comments. ♥

I will most definitely look a the link you have provided.
I think the goat is beautiful and we shan't be afraid of him.

I have explained in the comment directly above the use of symbolism and farm animals in Chagall's art. ♥

Dear Colonel Brandon,

Your letter was received in a most favourable manner.
I am so pleased that you liked the plate and the music as well, I trust that it was a pleasant diversion.

I do apologise for I was remiss in my correspondence to your good self last evening. I can only say that it was due entirely to a prior engagement and other distractions.
I did however begin to digest your article on the merits of William Cowper and the excerpts from The Task and look forward to returning this evening.
I thereby bid you adieu until that time.

I remain yours sincerely

i love it when i'm introduced to new music. i love the whimsical nature of this music even if it is about getting knocked about by love ..
and, of course, chagall is a favorite of mine as well, he's done various works on using 'the lovers' them if i remember correctly.

Phos dear, that lovely goat is just watching over his village.

There is nothing unnatural going on there, no menage a trois , just two people who are in love with each other picking wildflowers from the hillside. ♥

j cosmo thank you for stopping by, always nice to see you. Yes the little goat is doing what goats like to do...kidding around. ♥

dianne said...

Lee dear, Baa humbug? ynaaaynaaa?(bleat) right back at you. ♥

dianne said...

Well dear Lil Lambie that is easily done, after all he is white and he is in the distance.
I think he is adorable... just like you. ♥

Foamie my dearest friend I'm so pleased that you liked the song...yes it is about being injured by love, gosh how many handstands does one have to do and bruised knees and feelings hurt to get the attention of some people?
I just really enjoyed the light hearted singing and the music.
I had a feeling you might be a fan of Chagall, I thought you would love the colours.
Yes 'the lovers' have been a theme through many of his works. ♥

I have some scars on my body and they are all self-inflicted ;-)

"what would life be without taking some risk"

dianne said...

Hi dear M ,thank you, I think we all have scars, some self inflicted by believing in people that we allow to hurt us and others through bad choices we have made and risks we have taken. ♥

But life would be very boring without taking chances, all of those ups and downs.
For if we never climbed to the top of that mountain how would we ever know how beautiful the view is there and that of the valley below; life in perspective. ♥

I hope you have a very merry Christmas, that Santa brings you everything you deserve and that it doesn’t take too long to work off the effects of Christmas dinner.

Thank you for being part of what has been a fascinating year for me.
