The Street Where I Live

I wanted to do a post today as it is the 22nd day of the month, one of my favourite number combinations, not that I'm into numerology but somehow good things have happened to me on this date in the past.

I was hoping to post a poem that I am writing but sadly the words and sentiment of this poem aren't flowing in the way I would like and don't mirror the feelings and emotions I am trying to express ... sometimes a message of caring and reaching out to someone can be the most difficult to write.
It's for a very thoughtful friend who has been here for me for much longer than I ever realised or imagined; someone who I am missing and should have valued more ... though I don't know that he would visit here now and read my message ... I don't know where he is ... maybe he is lost to me and no longer thinks of me as his friend ...

Therefore I decided to post this photo which was taken by my youngest son quite a few years back. He has a great interest in photography, there are more to this set but they are located in his files.

This is a long exposure, taken with a Nikon, Coolpix E5400; this is the corner of the block where I live, my house is further back from this corner... it was a November evening and he was experimenting with his new camera, capturing the lights of cars which were coming and going from our street.

If you enlarge the photo you can see a partial eclipse of the Moon and Venus just to the left and below the moon. There are houses to the right of the photo and on the left amongst all of that darkness is a large reserve of native bushland and beyond that a park and playing field.

My street is on top of a ridge, which is part of a plateau which reaches out like fingers into the bushland and valleys below, I am surrounded by beautiful trees and flora and in the valleys are many creeks which eventually flow into rivers and bays ... ♥

Everytime I try to capture oncoming cars, they tend to run me over.

So yo don't live in Wombathollawallakoocheekoo?

Puggles my sweet, you should not be trying to capture oncoming cars, chasing them or going anywhere near them, apart from driving your car.
You should stay away from the road ... walk on the footpath/sidewalk and use the crossing, I don't want you to get injured. xo ♡

Thanks Shweta dear, yes Pug is a very funny, lovely guy/dog? :)
He should stay at the side of the road and take his photos from there.

Yes I am truly lucky to be living in such a 'green' environment and I count my blessings every day by trying to help to preserve it. xo ♡
Take care dear friend.

HLiza dear, I think your photos are always beautiful.

I didn't take this photo, I have taken some night photos, the only long exposure I have captured was completely by accident, I have a lot to learn about photography myself. xo ♡

Hello Phossy dear, no I don't live there or in wombathollow, kangaroo crossing, snake gully or Gundagai :-) well not last time I checked my address but we do have some names here similar to that. xo ♡

its an intriguing image in that it combines the mundane with the extraordinary. the poem will come at the exact right time.

i just love how the car light emphasize and slash right across the photo parallel with the road. and then to have the street post dissecting that makes for a really interesting composition.

dianne said...

Thanks dear K9 I think the photo has a surreal feeling to it...as you say the mundane as in the street sign, footpath and kerb, but there is something very interesting about how he has captured the light, that from the street light and the car headlights.
Then that incredible partial eclipse of the Moon and Venus, also other stars there as well but not as visible.

Yes the poem will come when it is the right time and maybe some words from my friend as well, if he ever visits here again...the book of chance is open once more. xo ♡

Thank you dear Foamy
I really like the composition of his photograph ... the darkness illuminated by the softness of the street light, then the strong light from the car headlights confronting you the viewer. I like how the pole disects the photo, the shadow from the pole and then lastly the eclipsed Moon and Venus just sitting above the whole scene as if unfolds. xo ♡

Interesting shot which I think your lad made a good go of :-) Technically, it shows relative speed according to distance (which I think is loosely related to Einstein's Theory of Relativity :-)

Here, where the car is in the distance, it hardly moves angle in relation to us, so the intensity of light builds up a brighter exposure in one spot. However, as the car gets closer and moves past us, the relative speed (or apparent speed) is much faster, so the light trail of exposure gets less and less (duller).

So there you are, your lad's simple night time exposure deals with Einstein's theory and notions of real speed in relation to time - I guess this is what he was trying to illustrate ?!:-)

Thanks for sharing this one Dianne

Thank you for your technical and professional comment Glyn dear, I will be sure to pass it on to Andrew.
I really like this photo, this is part of a set of photos that he shot on this particular evening, this is the only one I have in my files, he captured the lights of cars coming and going.
Yes it does have to do with relative speed and distance, by slowing down the shutter speed on the camera he has captured the beam of light in time as it will never be seen again, as if time had stood still momentarily. xx ♡

I've heard of places so devoid of people that you could fire a cannon down the main street. Safely.

Is that what's happening in the photo?

dianne said...

No dear J Cosmo
no cannon fire down the main street or my street, just some very bright headlights from passing cars.
It is quiet here compared to many suburbs but there are many residents, the population is growing all of the time and maybe that isn't a good thing. xo ♡

I was going to do the 'is it a bird? Is it a plane?' routine but perhaps I'd better not.

dianne said...

Lol Lee dear, no bird, no plane and no Superman ... the light from the car headlights, the street light and the moon just look surreal. ♡

You can see the pe of the moon! very cool!
Nice shot!

How are things in your world Dianne? Warm and delightful I hope! xoxo

dianne said...

Thanks dear Helene the partial eclipse of the moon is very cool, the whole photo is interesting.

My part of the world is far too hot and humid, wish I was in the UK myself. I would love to drive around the countryside and look at some of those beautiful green vistas, well maybe they are blanketed with snow at present, but in the Springtime would be nice. xo ♡

Beautiful picture with a nice night light. My youngest son was born at 22.

dianne said...

Thank you dear Leovi , it is a good picture, my son is very interested in photography and has taken many beautiful photographs.
You were 22 when your youngest son was born, that is so young my friend, but if you are with the right person, the one that you love then age does not matter. :)

Saludos xoxoxo ♡
