MEMORY OF YOUTH

I once sought the shade of trees
beneath their leafy bowers
Some respite from the summer sun
to pass away the hours

For that was when I was young
a memory from the past
But seasons come and seasons go
and soon the years do pass

And now my soul seeks the warmth
of forsaken summer suns
Times of promise and life renewed
when I thought that youth would last

Some respite from the bitter cold
as my body now grows old
Standing here 'neath branches bare
where once were leaves of gold

No promise of the warmth I seek
as I look for skies of sun
I realise those days have gone
as I stand 'neath branches bare
And now I know that I am old
and at a sunless sky I stare...

Poem by Dianne
Inspired by some words from Boneman

Very moving. Leave me all cut up. And a little sad.

You're old? puhleeeze.
It sounds like you are giving up.
That's not like you.

No dear Jeannie I'm not old and I would never give up; thanks for your concern. ♥

It's just a poem,I'm looking at life from a different perspective and actually I'm feeling quite positive and almost happy. ♥ :-)

this is very beautiful and melancholy, dianne ..

when i am old and the sky is sunless i hope that i find much beauty in it though....
may we both find much beauty in it.

glad you are feeling so positive .. :)

Thanks dear Lee , I'm sorry if I alarmed you, I guess a lot of my poetry is rather tragic, sometimes it mirrors my life, but no not this one. ♥
Though I have sought the shade of trees on many occasions because I love them, a pleasant place to lay looking up and seeing the sun sparkling through the green and there is something very beautiful and sculptured about a tree without its leaves. ♥

Oh Foamie my dear friend, thank you, yes it is melancholy but I actually like this one, it just flowed so freely when I was writing it, I just get these feelings and the emotion takes over me and the words come, I wish they were all so easy. ♥

Yes, when we are both old we will still see the beauty in a sunless sky, we will still see and feel the beauty in everything...I just know we will my dear. ♥

And please dont worry about me I am feeling positive even bordering on happiness. ♥

Sometimes I yearn to go back, but alas, one cannot.

Thanks dear Lil Lambie , yes it would be nice to go back to when we were very young; and I know my life and choices would be different if I were given a second chance. ♥

melancholy

in one way or another,
most yearn for a simpler time

when time is infinitely longer and promise is unencumbered by reality

great poem, dianne

I look at the bright side. There's less raking, and the gloominess keeps many people indoors. Plus it could just be seasonal.

Yes dear /t. you understand, when we were younger and we had everything to look forward to... the best part of our lives were before us or so we hoped. ♥
Simplicity, a slower pace, it would be nice to go back. I could do with a bit of 'non reality' right now. ♥
Thank you for your lovely comment. ♥

Thank you dear K9
I'm so pleased that you liked it, I'm pleased that you found the starkness and the quiet there, for its about someone growing older and quietly looking back and realising that they have wasted some of their youth but its too late for regrets. ♥
Thats why we should all make the most of the time we have, dont let opportunities pass us by...
And wow an A+, haven't been given one of those for a while. ♥

Oh Puggles my dearest, you always find the pluses in every situation, I'm surprised you weren't inquiring about missing golf equipment again. ♥
Yes no leaves, and lots of tree trunks for you to mark my sweet. ♥ :)

Thank you dear Anna-Lys , I'm so pleased you liked the poem; and yes Boneman is a lovely, kind, gentle man, one of the best as far as I am concerned. ♥

And thank you for being kind enough to tell me about the 'spam follower', you are so much more experienced with blogging than I am. ♥
I wondered why that avatar was there.
