An Update On My Son Matthew

Matthew in happier, healthier days.

Week six begins and Matthew remains in the Intensive Care / Critical Care Unit. He had further abdominal surgery last week as the wound was not healing properly and had to be reopened and cleaned of infection and accumulated debris from internal bleeding; this was posing yet another risk to his life.
The 23centimetre incision has been left open and a Vacu Seal (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy) dressing has been applied to help the wound heal more efficiently. He is still left with blood clots in his lungs and arteries, tachycardia, kidney problems and hypertension, none of which he had before this medical emergency.
I hope with ongoing treatment these problems can all be resolved.
Once more thank you all again for your words and wishes of kindness.

Much love, Dianne  xoxoxo  ♥

Thank you dearest Foamy for your lovely words and kind wishes.
Matthew is also a lovely person, a good person, of course we have had our disagreements but he has never caused me any problems, always a gentleman, studious, sensitive and caring.
It is sad because he has no-one special in his life to be with him, only me and his immediate family and some close friends. He was engaged for quite a while but they decided to go their separate ways.
We normally have coffee together every morning and I miss him not being here.

You have to press an intercom button to be allowed into the ICU, gown up and wash your hands with a disinfectant gel. Today I was greeted by his nurse who warned me that Matthew was not well, he had experienced a traumatic day.
His wound had haemorrhaged profusely, so much so that the Vacu Seal had to be removed and since the bleeding would not stop the surgeon had injected adrenaline into the tissue to stem the bleeding. The surgical packing had to be changed four times. The team are still deciding which is the best way to close the large incision, stitching and stapling are out of the question at present as his skin is too abraded and damaged. The surgical packing which contains anti-bacterial and other agents will give the open wound a chance to rest until a solution is decided upon.
He has been through so much pain and so many complications it is difficult to tell him not to give up hope and to keep positive.
I was hopeful that everything was moving forward slowly but this is yet another setback, it is so serious I worry that I will get a phone call in the middle of the night. It's just too much dear Foamy.

Love and hugs

Yes dear Cosmo , a very worrying time, it all seems surreal, a bad dream from which one wants to wake as the days come and go, back and forth to the hospital as Matthew's life hangs in the balance, not knowing what the future if any holds for him.

We only want the very best for our children, their health, happiness and a life lived to its full potential.

Thank you for your distant thoughts dear friend.
Hugs, Dianne

I must be strong as each day I hope for a big improvement in his condition, yet there is always another setback to his recovery. He must have great inner strength to endure all that has happened to him and for him to have survived.

I will pray for Matthew tonight. Not just an ordinary prayer. A prayer to the one who hears. A prayer for change. A prayer on bent knees. A prayer to whom nothing is impossible. You'll see. You'll know. I am right next to you. My back is on your back. Look up. CB.

dianne said...

Where have you been dearest CB , I have been worried about you too, wondering if you were alright, if you were unwell? I have been looking for a sign from you but could not find you. You said I was close to your heart but I felt you had left me, abandoned me just when I needed you the most...to feel you close to me, the comfort of your words, when I felt so alone.

Thank you for your prayer for Matthew and these sincere words, he has been through too much and the uncertainty is ongoing.
When I leave the hospital in the evening the air is so cool and fragrant, I look up to the sky as the Autumn night sky is filled with stars, its beauty comforts me somehow.
When I awoke early this morning I had a feeling of hopefulness, that today held the promise of some happiness...and here you are once more.

Thank you for being close to me again and for your prayers for Matthew, I won't feel so alone now and I will think of you far away on the other side of the world beyond that star filled sky. Please take care dear one.

Much love, your friend, Dianne.

Hartelijke groeten, Dianne

On a Lane in Spring

A little lane - the brook runs close beside,
And spangles in the sunshine, while the fish glide swiftly by;
And hedges leafing with the green springtide;
From out their greenery the old birds fly,
And chirp and whistle in the morning sun;
The pilewort glitters 'neath the pale blue sky,
The little robin has its nest begun
The grass-green linnets round the bushes fly.
How mild the spring comes in! the daisy buds
Lift up their golden blossoms to the sky.
How lovely are the pingles in the woods!
Here a beetle runs - and there a fly
Rests on the arum leaf in bottle-green,
And all the spring in this sweet lane is seen.

Dear Dianne,
your son will get better soon. He is a strong handsome guy, he'll make it! Take my word for it, I am a mother of a son too, I know what you are going through.
God bless you and your son!
Give him my best wishes, from Russia,
Irina

Thank you dear Juan for your kind and wise words, yes we are all a part of the evolution of this world. We do not have much control over what causes us happiness and sadness only on a very small personal level and the choices we make. We must learn to accept the fate that comes our way and deal with it as best we can.

Thank you dear Irina for your kind and encouraging words. I do hope my son will be well again soon, he must be strong to have survived all he has been through. He still has many serious complications which are ongoing, all we can do is hope that in time they will be resolved. I will pass on your kind wishes.
God bless you too!

Thank you dearest C.B. for this delightful poem. Clare's words paint an image and evoke a feeling of verdant beauty, a place of cool and quiet though busy with the sounds of birds singing, insects buzzing, the rippling sound of the stream, the scent of grasses and flowers...the sounds of Spring, a place I would love to be.

I found a wonderful image that I feel somehow illustrates the beauty of this poem.

Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness, it is comforting to feel your presence and friendship here with me once more.
Matthew's condition remains very much the same. I read this poem to him this evening he was very moved by its beauty and your kindness to me.

Take care dear one, much love, Dianne

Hello dear friend Crissi

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words, the serious nature of my son's condition goes on and on with more complications.
On Saturday a specialist from another leading hospital was called in to perform a surgical procedure with the use of CT scans to locate two large abscesses in Matthew's abdomen. these had to be drained of their contents and two permanent drains placed in situ for continued drainage.
This procedure was performed with a local anaesthetic, a general anaesthetic was not possible as his airways and lungs are too compromised with blood clots.
It is a very trying time, I don't know where he finds the strength to endure so much pain and I have to be strong for him when I feel so drained and worried for him.
Hugs, Dianne
