Soft Morning Thoughts...

I thought I sensed your presence
In the first breath of this day
In a dream-like state
I felt the darkness drift away
Like the soft glow of a candle
You light my morning way
Such a warm feeling
That you have passed this way
The memory of your words
Resonate within me still
In my heart they break the silence
Their warmth always will…

Poem - Dianne Dawes...♥
For my dear friend C.B.

Shall we start again? Alice is in Wonderland. Remember?

Of course, I don't want to live in THIS world? Does anybody? Really? With heartache from birth to death? Pretending. Always pretending that it's not that bad. Always look on the bright side of life. No. Thank you. This world of thoughtless bullies, hurt, insult, bluntly tread on people's feelings. Constantly. All the time. Relentlessly. Uncaring. Shall I go on?

Kieslowski pointed out, concerning the reason why he filmed the The Double Life Of Veronique: “But I think there’s also another kind of responsibility, the existence of which we don’t understand. It’s responsibility for other people, for people we meet or perhaps don’t meet. I firmly believe that the way we live and the things we do influence people around us whether we know them or not. The main theme of this film is 'live more carefully' because you don’t know what the consequences of your actions may be. You don’t know what they will do to people whom you know or don’t know. You don’t know how your actions may influence them. Live carefully, because there are people all around you whose lives and well-being depend on your actions. This concerns all of us, because these paths – these people and their destinies – cross each other all the time, whether we’re aware of it or not. That is what responsibility means to me – to live carefully and attentively. We should observe the people around us, and most of all ourselves.”

So...

I'm making a film. The hand on the tree is wrong. It needs to be re-shot. It's certainly cannot be mine. It has to be Alice's hand. She alone. Since she's the one who's going to be changing. You know. She changes. So the first scene which I shot needs to be re-shot. Same location though. A tree at a location only I know. Well... you'll know of course, in due time. Since I'm generous.

So...

Scene 2. There's a disappearing to take place. From behind the tree. A disappearing, well, from our world, that is.

Is that the time? Oh dear. Oh dear. I shall be late. I have to go now...

Dearest C.B.it is so lovely to hear from you once more, thank you for visiting.
I’m sorry dear one, you sound sad and disheartened, I am sorry that you are feeling so disenchanted with this world. I agree, it is not a very good place to be sometimes, so many dreadful events, violence, wars, unfeeling hurtful people…but we cannot change everything. We have to take responsibility for our own actions and make sure we live responsibly. My life is far from perfect but we must try and make the best of what we do have and try to make a little happiness for ourselves and others in each day. We have to look very hard some days but nature always seems to give us some beauty.

Wise words from Kieslowski, our actions do have consequences for ourselves and others, we are connected more than we realise. I endeavour to live in a responsible and careful way, being attentive to the feelings of others and how my actions might affect them. I hope my words have not hurt you or my constant reliance on your presence here? I miss you when you have gone, not knowing when or if you will return. I know I have no claim on your time or to expect you to visit, it is just that my world holds so much more happiness and is richer with you in it.

Yes we can start again. So, your Alice is in Wonderland? I did not understand. I remember you posting a clip from the film on one of your previous blogs and the wonderful sketch/drawing you did of Alice holding the key just outside the door.
I wasn’t aware that Jonathan Miller produced this film. I was fortunate to see his Opera Works series many years back, thoroughly enjoyable.
The Alice in Wonderland film clip is very surreal, though more to do with the music I think. Alice seems to be in a dream-like state perhaps much like I would be in such a lovely place. Such beautiful surroundings, the garden, the meadow, the riverbank, trees, grasses and flowers, it would have been so lovely in colour but that probably would have detracted from the mysterious feeling of the film. It has been too many years since I have read the books; Lewis Carroll certainly was an imaginative writer.

It is good that you are making a film. Yes, the hand on the tree will have to be that of a young girl or a young woman, yes she changes with all of her new experiences.
In your scene 2, I wonder who will disappear from behind the tree. Not you I hope! Since you are being generous I hope I will get to see this special tree or perhaps your film.
Good luck with your film dear C.B. I look forward to hearing from you again. Please take care dear one and try to find some happiness in each day.

Your dear friend, Dianne

Dianne, I wouldn't say that I more depressed or sadder than usual but, in fact, rather resolved recently.

Yes, I'm shooting the film in colour. Try as I might, I think there is no way I can use grey contrasts, even with various textures, patterns and suchlike surfaces, to convey the wide range of emotions that I have in mind. I had thought, though, about shooting in grey for some time. In the end, I made a decision to shoot in colour but not necessarily in the heavily saturated celluloid kind of colour as maybe Idziak did for TDLOV. Rather I will shoot fairly lightly and give the impression of intensity through other ways. I'm using a gold lens filter on the camera with a shade similar to the gel sheet that Idziak used for making TDLOV as well as specific colour settings on the camera to modify the spectral response of the filter in order to obtain the overall hue I want for most of the film. I rejected dozens of very close hues until one very particular hue resonated with me and felt harmonious with me. Whilst Idziak had a gel in which blue was absent in the shadows midtones and highlights, I've chosen to use settings to subtract blue from midtones and highlights but retain it for the shadows.

I met up last month with an actress, and yes, there was no mistaking she was an actress. To be honest, I was simply sitting next to her on a wide sofa with others she was talking with in the film industry. "Who are you with?" she turned suddenly and almost shouted to me. "Alice", I replied, in a knee-jerk reaction and not particularly thinking. "Don't know her. Actress?" she asked. "No, thankfully not", I said inside myself but managed to smile back all the same despite feeling I was about to be eaten. "Listen, here's my card. I believe standards have dropped in acting. There's not the talent or the schooling." "Thank you." I replied and after she had turned her attention back to her former conversation, I tried discreetly to drop her white card with her contact details into the edge of the sofa, sort-of accidentally, as I got up and left into the night rain outside, the huge glass windows separating us.

That kind of put paid to any notion I ever had of using an actress anywhere in my film! No, the person I have in mind must be expressionless, almost sullen, someone who doesn't use her face at all to convey emotion so that on the big screen it will be almost more than sufficient. What with all the audience projection of what she might feel anyway, I think it is more than enough that she must remain expressionless for her part. Otherwise, it will end up too much and she will start acting and generating emotions on cue... That sort of also answers the question about any written script I might use. It's inside. Like one's real emotions. Though rarely risked in Hollywood, rules can broken and films do not have to tell stories or carefully guide the audience's imaginations.

Un de ces jours.

Dearest C.B. , I am pleased that you are no more depressed or sadder than usual, though I wish you could reach some kind of balance in your emotions. Resolve is good.
This all sounds very exciting, you certainly know a lot about the film industry and photography, very technical with all of those different lenses, gel sheets and filters. I did not realise how complex filming could be. I like your idea of not using bright saturated colours. Softer, muted colours would be far nicer as I get the impression your story will be one of beauty and from the heart.
No loud, overbearing actresses either, I hope you can find someone with a delicate, refined beauty, the kind of beauty that comes from within. Thank you for sharing this with me, it means so much. Good luck with it all!
I wasn’t expecting you to return so soon but something drew me back here to the computer and I found your comment. I must go now as I have to be awake in four hours, I must try to get some sleep, though I am sure I will be thinking about you and your film. :)
Goodnight dear friend!
