Sunset

Slowly the west reaches for clothes of new colours
which it passes to a row of ancient trees.
You look, and soon these two worlds both leave you,
one part climbs toward heaven, one sinks to earth,

leaving you, not really belonging to either,
not so helplessly dark as that house that is silent,
not so unswervingly given to the eternal as that thing
that turns to a star each night and climbs –

leaving you (it is impossible to untangle the threads)
your own life, timid and standing high and growing,
so that, sometimes blocked in, sometimes reaching out,
one moment your life is a stone in you, and the next, a star.

Poem: Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)

indeed emotions are transient like the colors of the sky. one thing we can always count on: all things will pass.

Funny, ironically, I started sketching a rondeau with the first line "The sun still rose in the morning". (A reference to a life after leaving my job).

What a beautiful poem to share with us, Dianne :) I especially love the first and last lines. Sunsets are one of my favorite things and this picture is perfect :)

Have a week as beautiful as this post :) ♥

Thanks dearest chickory , I love this poem by Rilke, it reminded me of the 'love poem' by Emile Verhaeren which I posted on September, 3rd, both are very visual.
Everything is transient, I like this space in time when the sun is setting and the night sky is sweeping the sky, it is quiet and I don't feel lost, it is lovely to be between these two worlds, to see the day end and the night begin with the moon and stars.
