La Mer

La mer
The Sea
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
That one sees dancing along the clear gulfs
A des reflets d'argent
Has silver reflections
La mer
The Sea
Des reflets changeants
Changing reflections
Sous la pluie
Under the rain

La mer
The Sea
Au ciel d'été confond
In the summer sky merge
Ses blancs moutons
Its white sheep
Avec les anges si purs
With such pure angels
La mer bergère d'azur
The sea, shepherdess of azure
Infinie
Infinite

Voyez
See
Près des étangs
Close to the ponds
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
These large wet reeds
Voyez
See
Ces oiseaux blancs
These white birds
Et ces maisons rouillées
And these rusted houses

La mer
The Sea
Les a bercés
Has rocked them
Le long des golfes clairs
Along the clear gulfs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
And with a song of love
La mer
The Sea
A bercé mon cœur pour la vie
Has soothed my heart for life

"La Mer" - A song written by French lyricist Charles Trenet (1913-2001).
It is claimed that Trenet wrote the song, together with Leo Chauliac while riding a train in 1943. However, it was not until 1946 that he actually recorded the song.

This is an old song but I love it, I listened to it many times when I was a young girl, it holds memories for me of a time when the pace of life was much slower, quiter and of course, the sea.
I grew up near the sea, its ever changing colours of blue, its white capped waves, the soothing sound of the waves as they lapped the shore and its fresh, cooling breezes . . . I think the words of the song say it all . . . ♥

Thank you dear Foamy , yes it is a beautiful song; I like this 1968 recording as the end is quieter than the original version.
I am pleased that you enjoyed it. :)
It is so hot again here today and last night. I was thinking how lovely it would be to walk along the beach on the shoreline and feel the lacy ripples of cool water splashing on my legs and feet and to feel that cooling breeze.
It is not advisable or safe to go swimming at night now, something I would do at twilight when I was younger and the world was a different, safer place.

Saw your sweet comment over on my friend Ellie's blog and had to stop by! Beautiful lyrics - I love the sea! Although I've never lived near the sea, our favorite vacation are always around the ocean - what a never ending source of beauty that points to our marvelous Creator! Looking forward to future posts! God bless!

Thank you Maria , yes our friend Ellie has been hurt more than most people could endure but she is slowly rebuilding her shattered life and she has her faith in God to sustain her.
It is a beautiful song and describes the the changing colours of the sea so perfectly. It is like a mirror to the sky reflecting many shades of blue and the clouds with little hints of silver light as they sparkle on its surface.
Yes I love the sea, it is not that far from where I live now so I must make the effort to go there more often.
Thank you for visiting and God bless!

This is way better than the sea shanties that I am tortured with, whenever I shop at the Old Navy store.

Thanks Pugsley my sweet, I am pleased that you enjoyed this song more than the sea shanties.
Are you perhaps a sailor with a girl in every port! :)

Beautiful song by Charles Trenet, and is that a mortal like the sea change your reflexes as sunlight and rain and wind as its impetus. A hug.

Gracias querida Leovi por tus palabras encantadoras, sí esta canción es tan inmortal como el mar y sus cambios de humor y los colores, los reflejos de la luz del sol y la lluvia.
