If only we had met long ago
If fate had placed us
On the same journey
And our paths had crossed
If we had grown together
Sharing a lifetime
And making memories
I wonder
Where were you all that time ago?
Back then when we were young
When I was a flower blossoming
A bud whose petals were unfolding
My face fresh with the beauty of youth
My life ahead of me, one of promise
Of the hope of true happiness
Then you might look at me now with love
With eyes that still hold those memories
That we could have made
How sad that after our seperate lives
And our opposite directions
That our paths should cross now
When it seems too late
And you only see me now
At the end of my Summer days
When my youth is fading
And you don't see the beauty of me
That is still within . . .
If fate had placed us
On the same journey
And our paths had crossed
If we had grown together
Sharing a lifetime
And making memories
I wonder
Where were you all that time ago?
Back then when we were young
When I was a flower blossoming
A bud whose petals were unfolding
My face fresh with the beauty of youth
My life ahead of me, one of promise
Of the hope of true happiness
Then you might look at me now with love
With eyes that still hold those memories
That we could have made
How sad that after our seperate lives
And our opposite directions
That our paths should cross now
When it seems too late
And you only see me now
At the end of my Summer days
When my youth is fading
And you don't see the beauty of me
That is still within . . .

liebe Dianne, ich bringe dir 1000 Rosen mit, für dieses "Schöne".....
diese Gedanken, ich weiß deine Zufriedenheit und Bescheidenheit wäre auch eine Rose, an der sich dein Herz erfreut....

Great poem. There is a saying in Spain that says, "is never late if that is good. "
Dianne,
after reading this, all I could think was wish our paths could cross again..
You write beautiful, it is such a lovely poem..
take care
Beautifully written.
It ain't whats on the outside that counts...
very nice.
Hoe is it that we never hold the flower by the bloom, but always by the stem that supports it...Possibly we are caring for it so that it will bloom again.
Spring is just around the corner,
liebe Jasmin ich danke Ihnen für Ihre süßen Wünsche, 1000 Rosen wäre schön, sich vorstellen, wie schön ihr Duft und wie weich ihre Blütenblätter...
liebe Grüße von Dianne,

Thanks Phossy my dear,
yes what is on the inside is the most important, but still it would be nice to have some shared memories to look back on.
Anyway there is no hope, it is too late, he does not see me at all.
xoxoxo ♡
Thank you dear K9 I'm pleased that you liked it.

Love, dear Dianne, but it made me sad :( XO
That is a very 'Zen' way to look at it dear NYD , possibly to protect the delicate petals of the flower so that it shall bloom to see another day before it fades and its petals fall.
Yes, your Spring is not far away, my days of youth and Spring have long gone.
xoxoxo ♡
Thanks dear Diane ,
don't be sad it is just how life is sometimes ... missed opportunities and bad timing.

I was busy trying to pollinate.
Pugsley my sweet I did not realise that you were a 'litte buzzing bee', I thought you were a naughty little puppy who would be too busy trying 'procreate'! :)

Mmmm...nicely written. It is an eternal question of mankind: what if?
Thank you dear J Cosmo

I am so pleased that you liked my prose ... don't worry I am not unhappy, just thinking about missed opportunities and putting my thoughts into words and accepting how my life is and how it shall be, putting it into perspective.
Your new avatar is lovely, one of your beautful kitties no doubt? :)

Dianne, anyone who knows you would clearly see the beauty within you and I believe that inner beauty is revealed in the face. I do understand what you mean though.... I've met many people over the years that I wish I had met long ago. This is a lovely tender poem.
Thank you Lesley dear for your kind words. Yes inner beauty is the most important and if we get the chance and some time someone will see that beauty revealed, it does shine through ... but sometimes we meet the people that we could love or hope could love us when it is too late. Our paths cross by chance but our worlds are so different and have gone too far in opposite directions.
I am so pleased that you could see the beauty and tenderness in this poem.

Happy New Year my dear Dianne~
I find as I get older the only equalizer is indeed time- it catches all of us. And what we are on the inside is where the treasure is- and you are a gem ♥
Thank you dear Mayden ,
what you say is true,as long as we hold onto our inner beauty, then people should just accept us as we are.
Thank you for your kind comment, maybe one day I shall reach 'gem' status.
By the way I just love your garden, especially the tree lined pathway and steps leading upwards and beyond, they look so inviting and magical ...I wondered what kind of trees they are.
Happy New Year to you too sweet Mayden.

'If only'....
There's so much to say about it, poetically sPeaking it's wonderful....
'if only'- transforms ' the clingings of our heart' turning them into turmoils and sufferings, which certainly is a part of our learning experiences,
Sometimes it prevents us from seeing ' what is'.
i have been teaching myself....to grow without animosities, letting go and being resilent, so life happens again!
It does'nt mean that one discards the pains but integrates it into his wholeness.
Sufferings in the right dose is a teacher, but when it drowns one, it leaves us desperate.
Your post definitely helps me to see my 'if only's'....yet i also see the river of life taking me on its beautiful path nevertheless.
i'm glad you share with us many things that bounces within our own selves.
Thankyou Dianne for bringing contemplations into my thoughts.
The Beauty of who we are....may it vibrate to the boundless universal Beauty.
hugs to you!
Nb: By the way, how are the situations in Australia - i don't watch the tv so i'm very often the last to learn about the latest happenings, usually i get most of my news at work!
My thoughts go with them who are in the midst of 'it'.
Thank you dearest COL I am pleased that you enjoyed my prose for its poetic merits.
I was putting my thoughts to words when I decided to write this ... it was inspired by something I had written to a friend in an e-mail. I had thought that it would be wonderful to have met someone and fallen in love when I was young, someone with whom I had a history, who I had grown with and had made memories with. But in my case now when I or if I meet someone he will never know what I was like then, when I was young and vibrant and had my life ahead of me, so much time wasted.
I am still the same loving person inside but that would not be obvious to anyone from my physical appearance and lets be honest any encounters that I have are brief,I don't meet many people at all now so no-one really gets the chance to know what I am like as a person and what I could give and share in a relationship.
I would guess many of us would ask those questions "if only" or "what if" and wonder how different our lives would be.
I know there is a lot of 'what is' in my life but on a personal level not enough but I don't dwell on this, what good does it do me, my chances of happiness have gone so I just write sad poems about it?
Yes I know that I am fortunate I have a house in which to live, as a carer enough money to exist, I have children and grandchildren who love me, friends and all of my treasured followers here like yourself who bring so much happiness to my life.
The floods in Queensland and on the border of New South Wales are devastating with so many houses and property destroyed, crops lost which were ready to be harvested ... these people have lost everything ... 11 people confirmed dead today with 59 people still missing. There are more floods predicted throughout Queensland with 6500 houses in Brisbane predicted to go under water tonight and New South Wales and south in Victoria, there seems to be so much rain.
I have just had heavy rain where I live with no threat of imminent danger, thank you for asking.
Hugs to you too

You exude beauty, especially writing such a heart wrenching piece. We all have regrets, we all wonder if the path we have chosen in life is the best one for us. We cannot spend too much time looking back and wondering what if, if we did we would miss so many things ahead of us. I have made many mistakes in my life, some I regret deeply, but I always try to find the positives that came from the situation....every cloud has a silver lining after all....
Love yourself, it all starts within....
