The Saddest Farewell

Ours shall be the saddest farewell

When we two must part

I will not want to let you go

For it will surely break my heart

But go, farewell I know you must

For now you cannot stay

But hope of your return one day

In that I must place my trust

But for now you must leave me

Alone with my tears

As I watch you walk away

A little wave and a silent prayer

That our time apart shall pass

But first we shall share the closest embrace

And the sweetest kiss to last ...

Not only do I like your poem a lot (and I do), I plan to try it out on everyone who rings my doorbell and subsequently attempts to leave.

Thank you Pugsley my sweet, I'm pleased that you liked my poem, it is always nice to get some encouragement from you.

Wouldn't your plan depend on who was ringing your doorbell my sweet, you might want to farewell some people before they got a foot in the door.

Thank you dear Ruela , yes very deep inside, such sadness at saying 'Goodbye', when we dont want to ... and that kiss is like 'the long kiss goodnight', it is so sweet we don't want it to end.

That's a lovely poem, Dianne. Deep, caring, and maintains a lightness, even an optimism, despite the sadness of passing. Very nice indeed.

Thanks dear Lee you are very generous with your praise.
Most 'Goodbyes' are sad, we like to hold onto the moment for as long as possible before the inevitable time that we must let go and face the sadness of separation ... the memory of that kiss will last and sustain her.
I have left a little hope here, some optimism as you have said that they shall not be apart forever.

I enjoyed that poem, even for it's sadness actually Dianne. Sometimes I wish I'd just had a bust up myself so that I could really empathise with your words of loss ! :-)

Love Glyn

Thanks dear Glyn , you don't have to have a bust up with your lovely Carol to empathise with my words of sadness,:) I am not sad, I just understand how loss feels and can express those feelings in my poems.
This poem was inspired by some thoughts which came to me last night, I'm pleased that you enjoyed my words.

Love to you too, Dianne xoxo ♡

Parting is never nice..it hurts.

Thank you dear /t.

happy that my response to Pug's comment amused you,:) yes those door-to-door evangelists are persistent and insistent and won't take the hint to leave ... I doubt that my poem would send them on their way.

Thanks, pleased that you enjoyed my poem ... xoxoxo ♡

How true Hliza dear, the depth of the hurt depends very much on the circumstances of the separation and whom we are parting from.

it's truly only sad when the goodbye has to be permanent. but there is a sense of hope here of a return .. something to look forward to.

Thank you dearest Foamy
this poem came to me the other night purely by chance, a few thoughts then the words followed.
Yes parting is sad but not quite so bad when there is that sense of hope that the separation won't be forever.
Just more of my fanciful thinking, but I did feel it and I know that last sweet kiss would have to last and sustain her for some time.

Lovely Dianne,
The raw aches in goodbyes are like no other,
However,it all depends to whom we say goodbye.

We alone can feel
what makes us wince.

This poem surely takes me to those goodbyes that never leaves us,

The emptiness of that empty room stays vacant, and noone else can come in, for in that place runs a bleeding river that takes time to dry or probably never shall dry till the day you die.

You know how much your poems mean to me!!
Col!

Dearest Col
It is true, the depth of the sadness of a 'goodbye' depends entirely on whom we are separating from, some 'goodbyes' leave us with hope but some are forever.
These are the ones which leave an empty space within our hearts which no-one else can fill, a wound which never completely heals, leaving an ache and a feeling of longing... but we must not close our hearts to new friendships and love, for the garden of our heart needs to blossom with the flowers of new love or just like a flower deprived of water it shall wither and die.
I am so pleased that you can feel the depth of and enjoy my poems, I too marvel at the beauty and depth of your poems and prose.
