French Landscape

Pommiers en Fleurs

Village sur la Colline

Promenade au bord de la Riviere

Pierre-Eugène Montézin - 1874 - 1946
French Post-Impressionist Painter

There is not much information about this painter to be found on the Internet, however I did read that he was influenced very much by Claude Monet. There are many other beautiful paintings that I would have liked to have posted here but some images are in miniature format or are protected by copyright . . . I trust I am not breaking any rules here with these beautiful images.
There is a very interesting article and the only comprehensive information I could find about the life of this wonderful painter at ART WALLY FINDLAY , it is copyrighted so I cannot reproduce any of the information here. I have included a link so that you can read about this painter and his love of the open air and landscape; I hope Mr Findlay has no objections to me providing a link . . . he is sure to let me know I think. . . ♥

However I DO take issue with the man stealing the "Art Wally" moniker, which I planned to use for my own proposed art appreciation blog.

dianne said...

Well Pugsley ,my sweet I'm sorry, but you will have to take that matter up with Mr Findlay.
Anyway, while you were here did you look at the paintings and notice how beautiful they are?
I'm sure you can think of a better name for your own proposed art appreciation blog, for instance "Art Pugsley" or "Puerile Art"...

Good point. There are always better names (even some that are G-rated). When life throws eggs your way, make mayonnaise.

Very well. Carry on, I must.

The first painting I have redubbed "H.O.A. Violations" (H.O.A. is shorthand for Home Owner Association, a common affliction here in the U.S.A. (United States of America). Most H.O.A.s would take offence at the tall grass, weeds and dilapidated lawn furniture.

The next painting I have redubbed "One Walmart Short of Paradise".

The last painting I have redubbed "Pedestrians in Hiding: The First Woman Driver".

Those are very nice paintings.

I do love impressionist art. Thank you.

I think the Pug has been doing something naughty with a different sort of grass.

Yes Pugsley my sweet, surely there are better names you can choose for your art site,G-rated if that is what you would choose.

Don't fret so much my sweet, when life throws eggs at you do as I do sit at home on a Sarurday night searching for beautiful works of art to post here in the hope that someone will appreciate their beauty.

The first painting which you have renamed "H.O.A.Violations", is my favourite, it is an orchard,I would love to live there, lose myself amongst the apple trees, the grasses, the wildflowers and the sweet scent of apple blossoms.
Remember, one man's weed is another's beautiful wildflower.
I believe that dilapidated lawn furniture to which you refer is a peasant woman, maybe picking wildflowers or digging for truffles. :)

"One Walmart Short of Paradise", yes it was still paradise at that time "Walmart" was not a concept or scourge that was even thought of then.

"Pedestrians in Hiding: The First Woman Driver", no, I think it is just a couple taking their horse and cart for a leisurely ride along the road beside the river. I cannot see who is holding the reigns here, maybe it is both of them and I don't see any road casualties left behind them.
Just imagine how lovely that would be, life at a slower pace, the sounds and scents of nature and the clip clop of the horses hooves on the country road.
See life can be so beautiful if we use our imagination. xoxoxo ♡

Thank you dearest Lil Lamby , I am pleased that you liked these paintings, they are lovely.
Did you notice the lambs and sheep grazing on the hillside in the second painting, I think they are sheep, not dilapidated lawn furniture. :-) xoxoxo ♡

Thank you dear J Cosmo I thought you would appreciate Impressionist art and I think these are particularly lovely paintings of the French landscape, what a beautiful country. xoxoxo ♡

I don't know what Pug has been doing,I think he just likes to offer an alternative opinion on the art that I post here ... he likes to leave his personal 'mark' on the paintings. :)

dianne said...

Thank you dear /t.

You are very kind, I knew you would appeciate their beauty just as I do, if I use my imagination I can place myself in each of these settings, there is so much here to see, I am moved by their verdant colours and beauty of the landscape.

Yes Cosmo is very wise

Pug likes to add a comedic element
which always amuses me

I always listen to my own heart

And you are wise and very kind to me

I heard he didn't really paint them, but had some chimps do all the work and then just took credit. The fact he isn't well known is just cheater's proof!!!

dianne said...

Really Phossy my dear, chimps were they, very talented chimps I would say? :)
I thought you were going to tell me that they were 'colour by numbers' and that you had painted them; well whoever painted them they are beautiful examples of Impressionist landscapes.

There is a magic in being able to create an impression that everyone (well, almost everyone) can see and interpret without the painting of every leaf and every blade of grade. A nice choice, Dianne.

dianne said...

Thank you dear Lee
that is so true, an impression that leaves a little to our own imagination to elaborate on, our own personal perception of the painting, a feeling really.
I think they are beautiful, I'm so pleased that you like my choice of paintings too. xoxoxo ♡

first one looks more like Corot to me...better than Monet IMHO> i did see lots of the monets in france...sadly the ones a giverny were repros -the real ones are at the l'orangerie in Paris. They are lovely but not my favorites of all time...these however...are divine. the second one is terrific- makes me want to go right to my studio. I loved Pug's title for it. grrherhahaha

what is it like for you now...late winter? is it cool out?

Pink said...

lovely paintings. I'm not a big fan of impressionism but I appreciate them. My favourite is the last one. Thanks for posting them. xx

dianne said...

Thanks dearest chickory , I am always happy to hear from you as you always have something of interest to impart... you make me want to go to Paris.
I just have to go to France one of these days, before I get too old ... the Musêe de l'Orangerie and the Tuileries gardens plus the Musêe d'Orsay in Paris would be amongst my first destinations... so much to see.
Yes the first two landscapes are divine, the greens in his palette, beautifully painted,I found Pierre-Eugène Montézin during one of my image searches, so pleased that I did.
I haven't seen any of Monet's originals or repros, only pictures in by books and on the Internet, I do love some of his paintings but I have quite a few other favourite landscape artists like Corot, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Sisley and others of course. Some paintings just speak to me with their beauty.
I hope that you are enjoying your studio, would love to see some more photos.
Yes that Pug is a funny fellow. :)
We are almost at the end of the second month of winter, not really that cold compared to your winters, it is about 9ºC outside tonight though it has been colder, it did get down to minus 2ºC over a week ago.
Pleased you loved the paintings!

very lovely paintings. i can sense the texture of the oil paint in the first one. i like that. i love the say he painted the clouds against the blue sky in the first one. very subtle. indeed he is very subtle with the skies in all the paintings that you have posted.

dianne said...

Thanks dearest Foamy they are very lovely paintings, I'm so pleased that I came across them.
I would love to see the original of the first painting, there is so much texture and detail in the apple blossoms, the grass and the wildflowers scattered throughout the grasses, what a lovely place.
Yes the blues of each sky and their clouds are all very different but very soft and subtle.
Pleased that you liked them.

Thanks for sharing these. I LOVED the first picture, the feel of the flowers moving in the breeze.

dianne said...

Thank you dear Kathleen , I try to find lovely images to post here for everyone to enjoy.
Yes the first picture is my favorite, all of those apple blossoms look so pretty and their fragrance on the breeze would be delightful. xoxoxo ♡

Hi Dianne,
How is everything with You
and Your land(e)scapes ;-)
Nothing is as pretty as You
and the real experience of nature in present presence.

(( hug ))

Little Lamb said...

Now that you mention it about the lambs I do notice them. Or do you think those are tombstones?

dianne said...

Hi dear Anna-Lys how are you, hope you are well, back from your island for a while it would seem? You are very sweet to me.
Me, same old same old, nothing very exciting to report from here my dear but I still get a lot of fun out of finding these beautiful landscapes both real and painted.
Take care dear friend. xoxoxo ♡
(( hugz ))

dianne said...

I'm not sure Lamby dear, I thought they were wooly sheep and lambs grazing on the grass, it is difficult to get a close up view.
I don't think they are tombstones though, maybe they are hay stacks, there are plenty of those in the french countryside.

Diane,
What a wonderful idea to place us before our mornings, and open our windows plentifully so that the world can come in in the form of these lovely landscapes.....

i hope to have more free time so i can run off to the mountains,
Sit among the clouds,
Watch the sheep graze across the slopes,
Smell the sweet wilderness.
And touch the teardrops of the mountains shinING in the early morning light.

i think i'll have more time in August....Everyone is going for holidays while i have to set for work.

Ofcourse,You must visit France , but Italy too, Spain,....Prague and Budapest.....i'm sure You will!!!

dianne said...

Thank you dearest COL
I knew you would appreciate the beauty of these landscapes, so close to your heart, you have said it all in your comment.
I don't think that I could add anything more to the poetry of your beautiful words to describe the beauty and the feelings of these places ... how lovely it would be to spend some time here.
One day I hope, enjoy your time in the mountains in August, I know you will completely immerse yourself in their beautfiful offerings. xoxo ♡

Beautiful paintings Dianne. I love the second one. Although it's impressionist art, I can imagine myself being there. The scenery is so lush.

dianne said...

Thanks dear Lesley , yes they are beautiful paintings, I'm so pleased that I found this artist.
The scenery is very lush and green, I'm sure these places still exist in the region of Ile-de-France where Montézin loved to paint; somewhat changed I should imagine but I would still love to visit one day.

Beautiful pictures, true works of art. At first glance one sees the influence of Monet in large doses. Greetings.

dianne said...

Thanks dear Leovi , yes they are beautiful works of art and you can see the influence of the Impressionist painters in them.
My favourite is Pommiers en Fleurs, I love the many shades of green and textures of the trees, the soft blue sky and the landscape and those blossoms are so pretty; I think I should like to spend some time in that orchard. :-)

Saludos. xoxo ♡
