Claude Monet's home at Giverny became an Impressionist colony which attracted many artists from various countries.
The paintings I have posted here, apart from the first image are all works by American painters, this is just a small example of the paintings which were inspired by the landscape at Giverny. I think you will agree that they are all very beautiful and painted by talented artists.
I have not been able to source some of these works from the Internet as they belong to private collectors so I have had to research my art books. I'm not in favour of great works of art being in private collections unless the original painting or a print is available for public display . . . I feel that these great works of art should be here for all to see, not just the privileged and wealthy.
It is unclear when the first American artists visited Giverny, and uncertain too, what motivated that initial visit, it is estimated that the year was around 1874 ... ♥

I think my number one favourite is 'Summer, Giverny' by Alson Skinner Clark, I think the landscape he has captured is glorious ... I just love it.
All images can be enlarged for a more detailed view. xoxo ♡

all beautiful, dianne

i love monet & the impressionists

umm, yeah... me and a few million others :)

of course everyone is familiar with monet's many beautiful paintings of his giverny waterlilies -- kind of cool seeing all of these scenes from there by others -- v.nice!

Thanks dear /t. , pleased that you enjoyed these paintings.

Yes most of us love Monet and the Impressionists, there were so many who found their inspiration in the countryside surrounding Giverny and Monet's gardens.

Everyone is familiar with his waterlily paintings but his gardens were so much more than that with mass plantings of so many different flowers, sublime drifts of colours all thoughtfully planned to complement each other ... Monet loved his garden and I have some quotes here from him ...

"My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece."
"Everything I have earned has gone into these gardens."
"Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment."

This is WAY better than that Ant Colony I tried to start. Not one decent painting from that bunch. Plus they proved difficult to evict.

'House of Monet' -> I would rename this one: "Last Warning Not To Hula-Hoop By Mom's Expensive Vases"

'Summer, Giverny' -> I would rename this one: "Sledding Hill Proves Useless In Summer"

'Garten in Giverny' -> I would rename this one: "No Escape -Vengeance of the Flowers"

'Giverny Garden' -> I would rename this one: "The Table Has Turned (And Run Away)"

'A Stream Beneath Poplars' -> I would rename this one: "It Was A Nice Place Before The Beavers Arrived"

'Early Winter Landscape' -> I would rename this one: "Standstill - Life Before The Road Was Installed"

'View Through The Studio Window, Giverny' -> I would rename this one: "Ninja Pie Stealers Defeat Locked Gate"

XOXOX,
Pugsley

Thank you dear Lil Lambie ,
I'm pleased that you liked them; I would love to visit Giverny myself and look at all of these gardens and landscapes.
I know that there are tours of Monet's house and garden, I think it would be lovely to step back in time as I believe the gardens are maintained exactly as he planned them and re-planted with the same varietiies of flowers. xoxo ♡

Oh Puggles my sweet, I did not know that ants could paint, I think they just like sculpting sand!

So do you like these paintings more than the last lot that I posted?
I hope so as these are very beautful and I was thinking of you when I chose these American Impressionists.
I see you have renamed them all again.

Yes the little girl should be more careful of Momma's expensive ceramic planters with that hoop.

Actually, you can still sled in summer, we have grass sledding here, you would just have to avoid those pretty flowers and maybe the bees.

I would love to lose my way or myself amongst those flowers, how romantic. ;-)

Yes the young woman could be looking for the table but she could also be looking for the former occupant of the other chair ... maybe he was a handsome Frenchman and he is lost in the garden with moi!

Do they have beavers in France?
I guess they do ...
I don't think they have dammed the stream as the water still seems to be flowing.
Beavers are amazing animals, I watched a documentary, they are very industrious and clever and if they do turn up there those poplars will be in real trouble.

Yes it would be a good idea to stand still and take in the view as I guess a road will be built eventually and ruin a perfect scene.

If the Ninjas stole anything from that window ledge it would most likely be a quiche or some croissants, pronounced 'krwass-ahn' no I did not say 'cross ants' though yours may me cross with you for evicting them my sweet. :-)

XOXOXOXO ♡

It has taken me more than half an hour to reply to you my sweet and dear Lamby, I am having problems with my internet server,it is very slow and intermittent, so if I am not here or visiting your blogs please understand why. I will try to visit everyone when I can get some internet access. XO ♡

Oh, Giverny is special? Guess I shouldn't have taken a leak in the pond then...

Did you have the pleasure of visiting France and Giverny Phossy dear when you did your European tour?
You are a gentleman, I don't believe that you would take a leak in the pond,I'm sure they would have had suitable toilet amenities in the gardens at Monet's house, anyway you would have frightened the geese waving that 'thing' about. :-) xoxoxo ♡

Possibly your first comment from Ecuador:

I visited Giverny when I was in France, it is a lovely garden and quite surreal to see the waterlilies and the bridge in real life. A lovely place.

dianne said...

How exciting dear Lee , a comment from you and yes my very first comment from Ecuador, thank you so much ... you have been missed. xoxoxo ♡

How lovely that must have been for you.
Yes I too would like to visit France and I would love to see Monet's gardens at Giverny, it would be surrreal to see the actual gardens after seeing all of these paintings ... this research has inspired me to plant a garden with masses of flowers, well I hope I can manage it, we shall see.

Lovely, lovely. I appreciate your treating us to your research.

dianne said...

You are most welcome dear Kathleen and thank you.
I always enjoy my research, what is it they say 'the journey is half the fun'? That is true, for while I search for one thing I find many other paintings of beauty along the way.
I was just surprised that many of these works of art of which I am aware are not posted on the Internet, works of art which should be for all to see. xoxo ♡

i've been to france several times but have never been to giverny. i would love to go one of these days.

thanks for sharing a vision of giverny through the eyes of the artists who were able to visit in the day ..

Thanks dear Foamy
I'm pleased that you enjoyed these paintings which I think are really beautiful and which were inspired by the artists who were fortunate to stay at Giverny in that age of great Impressionist art.

So lovely that you have visited France several times, in hindsight I should have made wiser decisions and travelled to the UK and Europe myself when I had the opportunity and now I think because of my circumstances I shall never get the chance ... so it is lovely for me to find all of these great works of art... at least it is some consolation.
You will notice that I have added some more very lovely paintings to my sidebar ... some more of my favourite artists but not all of them yet.

I hope you are having fun in Memphis and enjoying your Summer holiday. :-) xoxo ♡

I did notice the art in your sidebar. It makes your blog look very pretty.
You know, a great aunt of mine who has been dead for quite a while now never had the opportunity to travel. Her favorite tv shows were shows that depicted nature and culture from different countries.
We are so lucky these days to have all this internet access. There are places I will probably never go to (such as your country) but can appreciate through the click of a mouse ..

Thanks dear friend Foamy
the sidebar is now my new small art gallery ... I like looking at these paintings and I thought it would be a good place to share them.
I will eventually feature these artists and paintings in future posts.
We are so fortunate to have the internet; when I do my research I find so many other beautiful works of art.
Like your dear aunt I too enjoy watching documentaries on the culture and customs of many countries which I shall never get to visit... also the nature documentaries. xoxoxo ♡
