L'Hommage du Marc Chagall

' Autumn in the Village '

' The Village Store '

' Lovers and Flowers '

' The White Window '
' Le Bouquet Ardent '
' La Mariée '
' Three Candles '

'Au-Dessus de Paris'

'La Branche'

' Enchantment Vesperal'

'A Wheatfield on a Summer's Afternoon'

These are some of my favourite paintings by Russian- French artist Marc Chagall (7th July 1887 - 28th March 1985) ; I have posted a few of his paintings on my blog over time but would now like to share these with you ... I just love the vibrant colours and their composition ... ♥
I have put a link here to Wikipedia, please go there and read more as there is so much to be said about this amazing and versatile artist and I do not have the space to cover all of the aspects of his career and life.

"He created a unique career in virtually every artistic medium, including paintings, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints."
He was known to have two basic reputations, as a pioneer of modernism, and as a major Jewish artist. He experienced modernism's golden age in Paris, where he synthesized the art forms of Cubism, Symbolism and Fauvism, and the influence of Fauvism gave rise to Surrealism. Yet throughout these phases of his style, he remained most emphatically a Jewish artist, whose work was one long dreamy reverie of life in his native village of Vitebsk." * Wikipedia

You will note that I have chosen many of his paintings here depicting 'lovers', his marriage resulted in a series of exuberant paintings of lovers. Some of his major works include theatrical designer for the Jewish State Theatre, executing murals there and his paintings for the ceilings of the Paris Opéra.

I really like chagall's work too, and bye-the-bye...

O Fair Lady Dianne!

Sir Cosmo is not the Knight ye think he is; verily have I Mocked him and upon his own Serviette, as it were.

Sir Percy Bisque Silley
Loved by Women, Feared by Men

M dear, I like this painting too, there are so many to choose from as Chagall was such a prolific artist.
There is a lot of symbolism in his paintings, his inclusion of farm animals in particular and herrings allude to his memories of childhood in Vitebsk ... you will also see references to farm animals in his images of Paris.
As a child he would visit his uncle's farm where he knew every animal by name. xo ♡

Also the goat is a Jewish symbol for the day of atonement.

Thanks dear Foamy
I really like his paintings, there are so many to choose from, this is just a small sample of his art ... some of my favourites, I have many more.
I could probably to a post just based on a colour theme or one subject such as flowers or lovers, I feel that he really loved to paint, I think you can see it in his paintings. xo ♡

I hope you are feeling a little better? :)

Why Sir Percy I thank you for this most unexpected visit to my Antipodean manor.

I am most diverted to learn that you too admire the works of that fine artist Marc Chagall.

But verily I ask you Sir,and press upon you to answer why you would mock such a gentleman, a bard of some good reputation and a noble Knight as Sir Cosmo?
Surely you are mistaken ...

I shall leave you now in no little state of confusion as to your meaning ...

I bid you adieu until we meet again.

Most affectionately yours,
Lady Dianne ♡

for my next wedding i plan to have dancing fish chickens and goats. i enjoy all of chagalls work. i saw an entire room of them at the pompadieu center in paris...much larger than i expected. its always fun to see a painting you had only seen in books before. his paintings tell of the sweetness in life; what is cherished and enduring.

(and do i see former duelist percy bizquick in here? grherhahahaha a black dog would have his throat on a serviette with a rappery extrordinaire.

dianne said...

Dearest Chickory I was hoping you would stop by, I was so sure you would love these images, I just love his paintings.

I was thinking of you when I posted 'enchantment vesperal', see the yellow chicken on the left near the top, how beautiful is its expression and if you look to the right just look at the vibrance of the orange sun as it sets over the houses at evensong or vespers.

These paintings are filled with life, love and colour, I love the inclusion of the birds, fish and goats, all symbolic and you can see and feel that Chagall loved his art ... sweetness of life, yes, all that you have said.

How wonderful for you to see the real paintings in Paris, I would really enjoy that.

So your next wedding will include dancing fish, chickens and goats, well you already have the chickens, there are some white goats on a farm near here, you will just have to teach some fish to dance, sounds wonderful ... now that would be a great subject for a painting for you. :)

Yes Sir Percy has called on me, I was most surprised, I don't know whether he is the genuine article or not, but I'm sure you could 'have his throat' as you put it with one of your superb rapperies.:)

i know him well, dianne, as i vanquished him in the poetry ring years ago. but he is a fine man of many manifestations.

Thanks dear chickory
I am relieved to know that he is a man of fine character, not a flagrant libertine or a bounder. ;) xo ♡

Please don't tell me your real name is Paul. I would be mildly disappointed, to say the least.

On a side note, I believe that if marriage ALWAYS resulted in a series of exuberant paintings of lovers, more people would be willing to sign up.

dianne said...

Lol! No Puggles my sweet, my name is definitely not Paul, it is Dianne and I am very much a female. :)

Gosh, I am being 'spammed' all over my blog, the Chinese and Japanese keep leaving their garbage at one of my earlier posts, I get tired of deleting their not-so-nice suggestions and links.

Exuberant paintings of lovers and marriage - no, the two don't necessarily go together.
In fact marriage doesn't guarantee happiness with someone, some people just find the right person then everything just seems to fall happily into place, nice if you can find that kind of happiness, whether married or not. xoxo ♡

You are very kind to me, what a lovely compliment, how fortunate I would have been to have met such an interesting and talented man as Chagall. xoxo ♡

O Vile and Villainous Poseur! O vituperative Pretender! O hanky-waving "Lady" at a Gentlemanly Joust who openly proclaims a victor e'en a'fore said Completion has begun!

For I have read your latest comment upon Sir Cosmo's blog and have replied, in part:

"Openly stating that you intend to cast thy Vote not on the merits - 'tis deeply shocking to Our sensibilities."

In Heated Reproach,

Sir Percy Bisque Silley, Man of Honour

dianne said...

Why Sir Percy
I am astonished by your most cruel and uninformed attack upon my character and deeply hurt that you should judge and reproach me so harshly... for I am a lady of honour and unquestionable morality.

For Sir I hardly know you, nor you me, and of course I would be inclined to support the colours of a friend and gentleman who has been most kind to me in ths past.

I am hardly vile nor a villainous poseur, and certainly no vituperative pretender.
And I will most certainly not be some 'hanky' waving Lady at a joust between you gentleman, for my affections are not the 'prize'. I am the prize of no man, a true gentleman would have to earn and win my affections with more than a jousting match.

You say you are a man of honour, maybe I have spoken with too much haste and as my trusty knight and protector K9, whose judgement I trust implicitly has stated that you are a 'fine man of many manifestations', I should perhaps be more liberal with my opinions and reserve my judgement of the joust on each gentleman's merits on the day.

I bid you a fine day,

Lady Dianne ♡

Stand by me Dianne! Stand resolute and firm! Do not waver so. This even handedness is most worrying.

Percy Bisque Silley said...

I Detest Chagall.

dianne said...

Yes my dear Knight, Sir Cosmo

My heart did waver and my judgement falter under the pressure of a knight who does call himself a gentleman.
Why, I ask myself, what kind of gentleman would insult me so and to bully me for what purpose, if only to promote himself? ♡

dianne said...

Sir Percy

That is entirely your choice and your right, we cannot all of us admire the same art or artist.

Lady Dianne ♡

Oh, Chagall! It is pure magic. Unmistakable, a star with light. I envy him in his art and life, it was a great adventurer and traveler.

dianne said...

Yes dear Leovi the art of Chagall is filled with colour, light and life. :)
