I Carry Your Heart With Me

'Les amoureux de Vence' - Marc Chagall

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

e e cummings

Chagall's one of my favorites - I'll be featuring some of his work when I teach Art Discovery this month to fifth graders. He's so fun! My favorite is The Birthday. Do you know it?

Your taste is great :)

I'm still trying to grasp your nesting (heart within a heart) concept. Looks like a long night of perusing medical journals is in store for this Pug.

Yes chickory dear, I am drawn to the warmth of the yellow chagall's, I especially love this one and 'white flowers'.

He truly does understand the sacred in his surroundings, whether it be the spirit of the elements of the earth and sky or that of a tree.

I really love this poem by e e cummings, it too is so visual and spirtual.

Thank you so very much for my post at chickory, I just love it and I have left a detailed appreciative comment there for you, I feel honoured that you would dedicate something so lovely to me. xo ♡

Yes Holly dear some of Chagall's works are fun, some very spirtual.
I'm sure your fifth graders will enjoy discovering his art as many of his works look simplistic yet they are not, when you look closely you discover so much more is there in the small added details.
Yes I am familiar with many of his paintings, including 'The Birthday'.
I have a few favourites, this one here which I have posted with the poem and some others which I may feature in the future. xo ♡

Thank you dear Maha ,
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the e e cummings poem, I think it is very beautiful and romantic. xo ♡

Oh Puggles my sweet
you don't have to peruse your medical journals to understand a heart nesting in the heart of another.
It is a metaphor for someone loving another so much that they carry the spirit of the heart of that persons love within theirs so that they are always together in mind and spirit.
This person means eveything to them. xo ♡

Thanks Glyn dear
This is one of my favourite images by Chagall and yes I really admire his art.
e e cummings is quite a romantic and imaginative poet, I love the concept of this poem, it is lovely. xo ♡

Thank you Foamy dear friend, yes they do go so well together.
I had chosen another of his paintings to post with the poem as it had two lovers embracing and a quarter moon, it also was beautiful but lacked the warmth I wanted in keeping with the sentiment of the poem, so I chose this image instead because of the lovers and the sun which is also mentioned in the poem. xoxoxo ♡

Thank you /t. dear

Yes a painting by Chagall or Chickory would always be a great choice to accompany a poem.

I really love this poem and I will now, since you have mentioned it try to forget its association with the serial killer Jeffery Dahmer, he is but one person who liked this poem and we should not let his association detract from the beauty of the words of cummings. xo ♡

Most often paintings have it's "heart" in the left part of it. Have you thought about that?

Perhaps it's because we are used to read from left to right.. can it be different if the painter is used to do the opposite?

I sense the heart and warmth from the left in this..

dianne said...

M dear, no I have never thought about it like that, I usually see the paintings as a 'whole'...
but yes there is much warmth here in the left hand side of the painting as your eye is drawn to the brilliant colour of the sun...
but so too in the right with the lovers, there is warmth here, the expression on her face is that of adoration and loving. xoxo ♡
