Earth's Song

Whilst searching for myself at dawn
I was thrice blessed this very morn
For I found a flower I thought had gone
there amongst the weeds it shone
Its white petals will soon be gone
I promise you I will take more care
so that when I look next summer
you will still be there ...

I listened to the songs of birds
and thought about my wasted words
Magpies warbling just past the dawn
a lovely way to greet the morn
A fledgling chick calls for its Mum
both reunited in the morning sun ...

Walking barefoot on sweetest grass
water bubbling in my path
Running in between my toes
thoughts of childhood
Forget my woes
Winding my way through leafy bowers
such a lovely way to spend the hours
Finding new shoots along the way
welcomed blessings is all I can say ...

And now has come a balmy breeze
it moves with music through the trees
The leaves are dancing to a rustling tune
and in the sky I see the moon
Birds are singing their evening song
frogs and crickets in unison
All around a pulsing sound
I feel the coolness of the ground ...

The air is filled with the scent of flowers
How I love these dusky hours
All this set against a sky of blue
ever deepening in every hue
Once again thoughts of you ...

And in the distance an owl's call
still many sounds at night fall
Listen quietly to the chorus of all
For it is the Earth's song after all.

Each Time We Must Part

Tears fill my eyes
Each time we must part

I have not had enough of you

Enough to fill my heart
I need so much more of you

We're only at the start
I look in your direction

As you leave and walk away

Please turn around and see me

I want you to stay

Our kiss is not enough
T
o take this sadness from my heart
I cannot bear it

Your absence breaks my heart

Please turn around and see me

And walk back this way
Please come back to me

Take this emptiness from my heart

A few more precious moments
To last whilst you're away

And ask you this question

Please,why can't you stay?

To Spring ...

The brooks are flowing
With sparkling water
Fresh from Winter's melt
Along the grassy borders
And rippling over stones
The freshness can be felt
Sunshine warms the meadows
To release their sweetest scent
The trees and hedgerows
Are blossoming anew
With verdant buds and leaves
Leaving behind the dullness
Of their long Winter rest
Spring adorns the fields
With a myriad of flowers
Everywhere they bloom
Fields,hedgerows and bowers
Such beauty to be seen
And gone is Winter's gloom ...

Amidst the Golden Light

Perhaps in another life
In another place in time
You will return to me
Amidst the golden light
I shall be waiting there
With hope in my heart
In the crisp chill of the air
Of an Autumn afternoon
We shall walk together
On a path of golden leaves
Falling all around us
In a cathedral of trees
Hand in hand together
With love in our hearts
On and on forever
Never to part ...

A Little Way ...

A little way past the gate
Beyond the garden wall
A lovely place to escape
I hope to see it all
Past the hedge
The stone ledge
Where daisies seek the sun
And lavenders grow against the wall
Such a fragrant garden edge
There beside the path I find
Red roses still in bloom
Lasting past their Summer blush
As Winter will come soon
Basking in the Autumn sun
They release their sweet perfume
Sweet petals, so soft to touch
Such a lovely afternoon
Other flowers begin their rest
And await their Winter sleep
But the roses remain in full blush
Such a lovely memory to keep ...

A Time for Everything

Once I thought that for us
There would be a time for everything
Words we shared, I treasured yours
Moments together in time
Days spent together in sunshine
Nights beneath moonlit skies
Perhaps one day, a time for love
So much still to share
But sadly time does not stand still
It races away so quickly
And takes with it my dreams
I can hardly catch my breath
As I try to catch the hours and hold them
Trying to stop them from slipping away
And what we have shared
But I cannot capture the moments
And hold on to them, or you
For you are slipping away
And taking with you my light
I am losing you and cannot stop time
I will never hear your words again
All I have left are memories
I wanted more time for us
But all hope is lost
As I fade away in this loneliness
Alone in this prison of darkness
Now there is no time for anything
And such an empty sadness fills my heart...

Sunset

Slowly the west reaches for clothes of new colours
which it passes to a row of ancient trees.
You look, and soon these two worlds both leave you,
one part climbs toward heaven, one sinks to earth,

leaving you, not really belonging to either,
not so helplessly dark as that house that is silent,
not so unswervingly given to the eternal as that thing
that turns to a star each night and climbs –

leaving you (it is impossible to untangle the threads)
your own life, timid and standing high and growing,
so that, sometimes blocked in, sometimes reaching out,
one moment your life is a stone in you, and the next, a star.

Poem: Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)
