Far and Away...

As you sleep
And dream of places
Far and away
Those special destinations
Which call you
Which await you
I think of you
And wish you
Days of happiness
And discoveries of joy
I pray for your safety
Throughout your journeys
On the roads and trails
To adventure
On which you travel
And take you
Far and away…

Poem- Dianne Dawes...♥

It will be a long and possibly very hot journey this time. Some 3000 miles via the Côte d'Azur and the perfume town of Grasse toward Cannes. The temperature next week is forecast to be between 35 and 40°C from the Alps toward the Vercor mountains and down toward Valensole before aiming east along the Gorges du Verdon and beyond. The lavande in Valensole and Riez has been in full bloom now for some weeks and the Valensole festival this year is on 19 July 2015 (traditionally the 3rd Sunday of July). I will be travelling through dozens of gorges, cols and valleys this year - many mountain passes for sure. There has been some serious landslip at the Lac du Chambon (the main road tunnel above the lake has caved in completely closing the primary road between Alpe d'Huez and Briançon and Stage 20 of the Tour de France this year was re-routed at the very last moment to a different mountain). The earth has been moving up to 1m per day above Lac du Chambon in the last few days and if the predicted rockfall of up to 1,000,000 m³ falls suddenly into the Lac du Chambon, there will be a mini-tsunami some 80m high across the surface of the lake. The area has all been closed off and the local folk have been waiting in their homes with bated breath as the rockfall was due to fall into the lake last Sunday but still hasn't yet. I am bypassing the area completely in any event and taking a high-altitude alternative route north. I will take many photos. One day, I may even be able to put them up somewhere to see. At least, I will keep the memories for now. I will be travelling slowly, safely and just watching the world of nature roll by. Stopping, having picnics under pine forest trees out of the predicted scorching sun. With a few days to go, I must remember to pick up water along the way! In places, there won't be any for quite a distance as is surely the case in areas of NSW. Thinking of you and thanking you very much for all your kind sentiments. C.B.

Thank you dear C.B. for this message, I have been thinking about you, wondering how you are and it is so lovely to hear from you again. Your journey this time sounds like quite a challenge given the high temperatures, riding through the mountain gorges and re-routing because of natural disasters…but I know you will enjoy yourself. I have only been watching a little of Le Tour de France before I go to bed, I love the scenery of the French countryside and the rural towns. I had not heard that particular disaster being mentioned, how frightening for the people of Chambon du Lac. Yes, I am glad you are bypassing that area. You will see many beautiful places of natural beauty along the way, how wonderful that shall be, enjoy your picnics beneath pine forest trees, such lovely green and fragrant spaces in which to relax. Yes, please take many photographs; it would be lovely if one day you could share them. I have always enjoyed looking at your photographs. I shall look up all of these places you have mentioned on my map of France. Please take care dear one, have a wonderful journey, keep hydrated and come home safely…I look forward to hearing from your again.
Your friend, Dianne.
Warm hugs
