As Evening Falls ...

As evening falls
At the closing
Of a warm Autumn day
And dusk tints the sky
And shadows form
I like to walk barefoot
Upon the dew kissed grass
It is soft and cool
Beneath my feet
I love the feeling
Of the cool misty air
Its gentle touch
Cool upon my skin
A soft breeze stirs
And caresses the leaves
I look to the stars
To guide my way
The moonlight is clouded
But it lights my way
As I search in the night
For an elusive flower
Its delicate perfume
Scents the evening air
Its perfume beckons
But eludes me still
Its mystery remains
Veiled by the night…

Thank you dear Marty for your kind words.
The Autumn weather here in March is not cold, in fact the days have been quite warm. There has been a lovely flower fragrance scenting the air and as I do love to wander around the garden at night I was searching for this flower. I did not find it yet its scent pervades the air, it must be in another garden close by.

This world is not worthy of your beauty. You write slowly, thoughtfully, gently. If no one read, the whispering leaves would silence their tendencies to move around in their restlessness and keeping still, would turn their now listening ears to your expressions and blush in shame to be in the presence of your lyrical and gentle beauty. Why so do I write? Because what you write, maybe for some, mere words, but for others, a light evening mist appearing stronger and stronger betwixt words of most subtle feeling. A mist of words that hint of scent, and yet, is without scent. You truly understand the power of nature to hint. Thus you too, hint. In a most beauteous way, if I may say. If nature herself behaves as a modest, unassuming lady of wondrous beauty, you, much more so. I am in awe at your understanding of this very, very, very... Yet, I had, I always had, that feeling you had that innate sense of what makes life real. That which separates this from that, unites this to that. This separating, this uniting, occurs and reoccurs, almost as if by chance and is so much part of nature herself. I had to re-read your words, again and again. Solitude, no doubt, has led to your extreme sensitivity to such things. To look at the veil and be in awe. I look at the veil too. If only humans did not exist on this planet to need all that turning, then the stars would stop their movement, the dusk would stay still, the glow of the set sun below the horizon would simply shimmer on and on and on and we would sit with our backs to each other and watch and watch and watch. And never ever be cold.

Thank you dear one for your kind, generous and thoughtful words. There is nothing exceptional about me, I just feel so deeply and I am very much aware of the subtle and quiet beauty around me… I see beauty everywhere and in the most obscure places. Sometimes I have difficulty expressing myself and finding the words which would accurately describe how I am feeling…yet often no words are needed unless I wish to share my experiences in a poem or prose. I am sure if you had been here with me you would have felt the same, no words would have to be spoken; a shared experience, we would understand how each other felt. To be in awe, touches the deepest part of our being, can bring tears of emotion to our eyes and often renders us speechless, our inner voice speaks to us instead. I was hoping you would return, if wishes came true, then mine has been answered, for here you are. I miss you so much and often and like the young lady you spoke to at Covent Garden, I too would like to say “Don’t go” before you disappear into the shadows of the night or in my case into the ether where I cannot reach you and you cannot hear me when my words to you are spoken. When you say ‘one of these days’ I do not understand in what context you are speaking, it makes me think it will be a long time before you return. It would be wonderful to be near you, your back touching mine, everything around us has suddenly paused, the golden glow of the setting sun is sitting just below the horizon, dusk has coloured the sky with a warm glow, the leaves are still, the moon and stars are at rest and we would sit there quietly and watch, a moment in time, extended… and yes, we would never be cold.
Take care dear one, it is always a joy to read your words.
