The soft muted blue of the sky at dusk
Is soon streaked with a blaze of colours
Hues of purple, orange and red
As the sun sets over the sea
I stand at the water’s edge
This oasis at the desert’s edge
The sand is wet and cool
As little ripples of foam
Wash over my feet
And tickle as they rush back to the sea
The soft breeze that whispers
In the trees at evening
Carries with it the scent of flowers
And the salt of the sea
It caresses my face
And blows my hair about
Blowing the sheer fabric
Of my gown tightly against my skin
Then blowing the fabric around
Like the sails of a ship at sea
I look to the dark sky
It is now the deepest of blue
Punctuated with a myriad
Of sparkling stars
The silver moonlight
Lights my way as I walk
Along the sandy shore
And through the perfumed flowers
Of the tropical sea-side garden
I return to my room on the beach
Through the light drapes
Either side of the open door
Moving like sails in the sea breeze
As I lay on the bed
In the moonlight
Drifting in and out
of slumber
Recalling the events of the day
Remembering the golden sand
The heat of the sun
The scents of the day
Remembering the cool of the water
As it enveloped my body
So clear and fresh, the colour of aqua
As I swam, so cool, rippling against my skin
Salty water and tiny bubbles
Such a liberating feeling of weightlessness
Soon I drift off to sleep
Listening to the waves
As they gently ebb and flow
The song of the waves
As they softly lap the sandy shore…
