The Emptiness of Silence

There is an air of loss which surrounds me
And a feeling of sadness in my heart
You were here for such a short time
And just as quickly you were gone
How sweet is the time when you are close
Your presence brings much joy
Precious moments that are so fleeting
Your visits here pass too soon
The light you bring fades too quickly
And the shadows move in once more
Now left alone to ponder your words
Leaving me here to wish for more
How do I fill the emptiness you leave
The silence when you are not here?
To hope for your return again would be too soon
For I know I have no right to ask for more
Yet, here I am again missing you
Wishing you to return and soon
Wondering how long I shall have to wait
To feel the warmth of your presence once more…

A TRAIN RIDE

So we're here opposite each other
You said you wanted to see more
A slow train ride over a bridge
St Catherine in the background

Your coat is like the one she had
Funny that, hey, are those biscuits?
Yes, I always wear my red silk scarf
And my black jacket from the bridge

Yes, they're pretty little stars
Sparkling gently in the sunshine
Like tiny microcosms of other worlds
We always hoped to visit one day

I tend to keep things in my pocket, look
Stones, something you wrote, remember?
My hands are so old now, I hate them
Maybe that's what pockets are for

Anyway, they're mine, touched by her
I pulled away because you know
You can't just ask a stranger can you
To go and have a coffee somewhere

What did she think she saw in my eyes?
I had asked her, you know, to come
Well, you know the rest of it
I waited but she didn't come

I set tests like that, I don't why
Maybe to determine trust in someone
I walked back to South Kensington
To sit again on the hard pavement

Excuse me, I'm talking too much again
This train that we took from Krakow
Where I picked you up from the airport
It's old, isn't it? I wonder how old

Clermont Ferrand, I was robbed
I don't want to go back there
I visited the cemetery to see
Climbed the mountains, it was OK

No, there's this bench I wanted to show you
You know, in Autumn, there's leaves everywhere
More importantly, the streets are sort of sandy
Fine white sand from I don't know where

Like blown in from another world
You can't miss it under your shoes
And there's that evening sunshine
Streaming in between the trees

In the distance, you can hear the trumpet
I've worked out where I am from that call
It's all so..., so familiar from yesterday
Like we could almost hold it in our hands.

I felt somewhat solemn while reading it. People come and leave from our lives all the time. But the most difficult is to say goodbyes to those who have a special place in our lives.

Thank you dear Sui for your kind words. Yes, I guess there is a feeling of solemnity in this prose because one never knows if the people we deeply care for will leave and never return.

Thank you dearest C.B. for returning and for this interesting piece of prose.
I began to miss you the day after you left your last poem, I felt an emptiness and some sadness...
Perhaps I should not write my personal feelings here in the form of prose, I don't want you to feel as if you are being summoned to solve my feelings of loneliness. I would prefer you came because you wanted to.

Thank you for the link to the square in Grybo and the church of St Catherine. The church which Weronika saw when she was on the train to visit her Aunt and the scene in the painting above her bed.
I guess the pretty little stars sparkling in the sunshine are those in the plastic ball which Weronika carries with her and through which she views the world.
I don't understand many aspects of this prose, they are confusing.
Are you addressing me or someone else entirely, perhaps these memories are from another time and place and another person.

However,I would enjoy a slow ride on an old train with you sitting opposite me, there is something romantic about old trains.
It would be nice if there was a clear blue sky and the sun was shining through the windows.

Yes, my coat is the same as hers but I don't carry biscuits in my pockets. The red silk scarf you mention is probably the red paisley scarf you bought at the French fair in Winchester.
Stones, yes, you collect them, you found a beautiful heart-shaped stone.
Last time I saw your hands they looked fine, they didn't look old. Why would you want to hide them in pockets, yes, they are your hands, touched by her.
I have not seen your eyes, though I would like to, you can tell a lot about a person from their eyes. You always wear dark sunglasses, I would not know the colour or what she thought when she looked into them.
I thought she did come to meet you, you said you would have waited two more days or three. Veronique lives in Clermont Ferrand.

This bench you mention, do you want to show me or this other person?
This fine white sand you speak of and the Autumn leaves, it could be anywhere...the cemetery, the beach a park.
Perhaps in the street where Weronika collapses on the bench after suffering from heart pain.

I don't know where you are or from where you have heard the trumpet call, I am thoroughly confused. I suspect this prose has little to do with me but I am as ever pleased to hear from you.
You should not set tests for people, you should learn to trust more, especially me.

Take care dear one.
Love and hugs xoxox ♡

I read your poem to the delivery man. Now I have to pick up all of my packages at the depot.

What a muse though..
Makes for pretty, albeit melancholy prose poetry. I'm hoping your winter is lovely?

Juan querido amigo, por favor, no te preocupes por mí, sí estoy triste algunos días pero hay otros días en que me siento felicidad.

Hello dear Pugsley , so nice to see your here again.
Perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to read my poem to the delivery man, he probably thought that you were asking him to stay for a while and trying to 'hit' on him. ;)
Hugs sweet Pug!

Thank you dearest Foamy for your sweet words.
Yes, quite a muse, an inspiring, intelligent and challenging muse.

I love your new avatar, beautiful yellow flowers from your garden I think.

We did not have a normal Autumn, the day time temperatures were above 20ºC for weeks, it has just recently started to feel cold and thankfully we had some rain in the last couple of days.

I hope you are well and enjoying your Summer weather?
Love and hugs lil Sweet Pea!
