The Sands of Time

The sands of time
Pass slowly
Through my fingers
When you are away from me
I try to hold the golden grains
In my hands
To hold onto time
To bring you back to me
But they just slip away
As I try to follow you
The caravan travels on
At its rhythmic pace
Across the vastness of this space
The shimmering sky
And illusory sea on the horizon
Soon turns to orange fire
At sunset
As the day falls into night
I look to the star filled sky
That shines so brightly
Out of its velvet darkness
To find my way to you
The welcome breeze
Of the day
Soon becomes a cold wind
And stirs up a storm
Blinding my way
As I try to find my way to you
And my heart and hopes
Fade and fall away
Like the shifting sands
As you are not here to comfort me
In this vast desert emptiness ...

Caravanserai

Your poem is very lovely and reminded me of this song here, which I'm sure you are very familiar with, Dianne.

Thank you dearest Foamy for your lovely compliment of my poem. Oh yes I have Caravanserai on a CD, beautiful song and words that take you on an imaginary journey...my poem fades into insignificance compared to Loreena's words.

Yes my dear, I cannot believe it but I am still here, still writing poetry of unrequited love and still looking for that elusive nice man who might come into my life. :)
It is good to be here, I have so many great friends to keep me company.

Oh Pugsly my sweet, I am so sorry that you got sand everywhere, even in your hot dog...the desert does that, sand everywhere. The mountains sounds like a better idea, so why didn't you go there instead?

Thank you dear Leovi for your lovely words. I have fallen asleep at night watching the stars whilst camping in the countryside far away from any city lights, the sky looks so clear and vast and the stars are so bright... but not in the desert, I can imagine that would be very special. :)

Hi Dianne,
Yesterday i was talking to someone who means a lot to me....It was also about a song i heard.....
the phrases went like this....
"Beloved heart, why are you so desolate?
The one who is loveless pains to know love....falters in fear".
Well we all have our caravans of solitudes, our deserts to cross.....inspite of that if we look around life is endlessly lovely.
This is a theme that every poet explores at one time or the other....our sensitivities takes us deep into our chests, where in its thuds we can feel the time shift as we advance in our path.
a poem of solitude and spirituality indeed! which you have very well displayed through your skillful writings!
Thankyou Diane.

Many new lights glitter under the open sky of your caravan.
love

dianne said...

Thank you Leovi dear friend, that is so true, even in solitude one can love without having that love returned ... it is the purest and most unselfish love of all ... when one loves and asks nothing in return and is most beautiful.

Dearest col thank you, such lovely phrases in your song.
Please don't worry, although I find myself unloved and feeling desolate at times I can still look around me and see the endless loveliness in the world. I could not write the poems that I do if my heart was not capable of love and seeing all that is worthwhile around me.
I am pleased that you liked my writing, my poem is one of solitude and it is spiritual and the feelings that inspire me come from my heart and experiences.
Thank you dear friend, I shall look for those new lights that glitter in my sky, you are so kind to me.
Love, Dianne
