River Cottage

This is how I decided to spend my Saturday evening, painting this landscape of an English country cottage using watercolours on English cotton paper. This is my first attempt, I shall try again.
I saw this scene flash by on the television a few months back, it was a part of the opening titles for a program called 'River Cottage'. I was so impressed with this beautiful image I decided to do a quick sketch and tonight have painted it from memory.
I would love to own an old stone cottage like this, white-washed, with deep window sills and white paned windows.
How lovely to be situated on the side of a gently sloping hill which reaches down to a pristine river or stream where one can hear the water flowing by. To take in the fresh air and soft fragrance of the meadows and fruits and flowers from the orchards.
To walk over undulating hills of meadow grasses of different textures and softness and hues of green, scattered with white and yellow wildflowers.
To pick wild apples from some ancient tree and berries growing within the hedgerows. Listening to the birds singing who have nested in the hedges and trees ... this sounds like perfection to me.

Watercolour painting by Dianne D ... ♥

Liebe, dein Freund Dianne.

Well done for your first venture into it - will look forward to future paintings.

Thank you dear J Cosmo for your kind words.
It is not my first venture into watercolours, just this particular painting.
Watercolours are difficult, the paint has to be applied thickly to achieve the depth of colour. A friend has suggested that I try acrylic paints so I shall use them for my next painting project. :)

You are talented beyond poetry, dear Dianne! :-) A beautiful, watercolor painting. It is my understanding that this medium of painting can be very difficult?

The words that you 'painted' to accompany the image is what made me fall in love with the cottage and all of it's surroundings. I suddenly wanted to live there too!

Wonderful work, Dianne! Thanks for sharing with us. :-) ♥

Thank you so much dear Fiona for your lovely comment, I do like drawing and painting but I do not practice enough. When I saw this cottage on the television I was completely taken in by the beauty of it and its surroundings and wanted to keep it, apart from in my memory. So from a rough sketch this ordinary water colour has emerged, it is far from perfect but I enjoyed painting this scene. The words that I 'painted' come from the location of the cottage and my many experiences of walking through meadows, orchards and near rivers and streams. Meadows and orchards have their own special appeal and fragrance. I am so pleased that you enjoyed my painting and its surroundings.
Love, Dianne

Thank you dearest Foamy for your kind comment, as an art teacher you will have noticed how amateur this water colour is, I am no great painter but I did paint this from my heart and how I felt about the beautiful green surroundings.
It would be lovely if you were to walk there too, we could walk together and discover all of the lovely vistas to see.
Lovely to see you little sweet pea, I hope you are well and still enjoying your holidays.

A beautiful painting.
And Good Luck. :)

Thank you dearest chickory, for your lovely comment, yes that is how I would like to spend every day.
I am so pleased that you loved my painting, even though it is not so grand, I think my amateur attempt at painting with watercolours and words has painted an image that most people who love nature can relate to.
How wonderful it would be to make the dream come true.

Amor y besos, tu amigo, Dianne.

Thank you dear friend /t. for your thoughtful comment, you are very kind to me.
This is my first attempt at painting this house and surroundings from memory. I hope the colours I have used are a true representation of the trees and vegetation. It was difficult as the watercolours were very transparent so I had to apply the paint more thickly. A friend has suggested that I should try acrylic paints as they have more depth and are easier to paint with.
Yes, I shall try again as I really enjoy drawing and painting. :)

Dianne,
i finished reading your 'white silence', though they held the sad, i still found what i needed in them to like what i like about silence, And i'm going through your posts the otherway down....

i'm glad you've decided to share with us something differently artistic than words....i've got the itch too, i hope to explore the brush i've neglected for so long.
You are a real inspiration!
i did enjoyed your lovely thoughts that goes with the painting!

You offer me a miracle....an act of creating!
