Garden of Dreams

I came to meet you
In the garden of dreams
In the last dying hours
Of the night
When the stars
Are just fading
And the moonlight
Is waning
Standing there lost
Between day and night
But as the sun rose
I could not see you
In the brilliance
Of its golden light
In my thoughts
You're always with me
Forever in my heart
But if I should
Want to touch you
You're out of reach
And out of sight
I wonder
Were you there?
In the shadows
Watching
Away from the light
For I know
I could not see you

I could not feel you
Just the cold
Of the retreating night ...

How Gentle The Heart ...

How gentle the heart
Who nurtures love
Love that is broken
And lost its way
And guides this love
Over darkened paths
With a light that glows
From an inner warmth
To find its way
To a waiting heart
One that has hoped
For a chance to give
To mend and grow
And let love live ...

Another Day ... Un autre jour

Another day
Another time
Your words mean so much to me
I wonder if you will ever know
Just how much they touch me so
They give me hope, a small reprieve
Another day to believe
That I shall read your words to me
In another place in time
Precious memories from the past
I hold them in a gentle heart
I live to hope another day
When your kindness
Takes away the grey
And your words shall bring
Some sunshine
Into all of my tomorrows ...

Words Beyond the Page

Thoughts of you come to me
When I think of days gone by
Many summer suns have passed
Since our words danced on the page
Like the beauty of rambling vines
Our thoughts became entwined
And a garden of sweetest words
Soon blossomed beyond the page
Your words were sincere and tender
And I responded in kind
How I miss those sweetest days
When I hoped you would be mine
But not all dreams last forever
Just memories from that time
Now our garden has sadly wilted
Neglected beauty left behind ...

Nocturne ...

Now let the day
Just slip away
So the dark night may watch over you
Velvet blue, silent true
It embraces your heart and your soul
Nocturne

Never cry, never sigh
You don't have to wonder why
Always be, always see
Come and dream the night with me
Nocturne

Have no fear
When the night draws near
And fills you with dreams and desire
Like a child asleep
So warm, so deep
You will find me there waiting for you
Nocturne

We will fly, claim the sky
We don't have to wonder why
Always be, always see
Come and dream the night with me
Nocturne

Though darkness lay
It will give way
When the dark night delivers the day

Pathways ...

Understand, I'll slip quietly
away from the noisy crowd
when I see the pale
stars rising, blooming, over the oaks.

I'll pursue solitary pathways
through the pale twilit meadows,
with only this one dream:
You come too.

The Viewless Atoms of the Air

The viewless atoms of the air
Around me palpitate and burn,
All heaven dissolves in gold, and earth
Quivers with new found joy.
Floating on waves of harmony I hear
A stir of kisses, and a sweep of wings;
Mine eyelids close --"What pageant nears?"
" 'Tis Love that passes by!"

Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, 1836-1870, was a Spanish post-romanticist writer of poetry and short stories, now considered one of the most important figures in Spanish literature.
