Happy New Year

Happy New Year greetings for 2013 to all of my dear friends and followers. As the clock strikes midnight tonight may you share this special moment with those you love, whether it is with family or with that one special person in your life. May the coming year be one of peace, good health, love and happiness. Please keep some love and compassion in your hearts for those who will not be with their families to see in this New Year, those people who are alone and those who are homeless and have no-one to care for them.

Now I Become Myself

Now I become myself. It's taken
Time, many years and places;
I have been dissolved and shaken,
Worn other people's faces,
Run madly, as if Time were there,
Terribly old, crying a warning,
"Hurry, you will be dead before--"
(What? Before you reach the morning?
Or the end of the poem is clear?
Or love safe in the walled city?)
Now to stand still, to be here,
Feel my own weight and density!
The black shadow on the paper
Is my hand; the shadow of a word
As thought shapes the shaper
Falls heavy on the page, is heard.
All fuses now, falls into place
From wish to action, word to silence,
My work, my love, my time, my face
Gathered into one intense
Gesture of growing like a plant.
As slowly as the ripening fruit
Fertile, detached, and always spent,
Falls but does not exhaust the root,
So all the poem is, can give,
Grows in me to become the song,
Made so and rooted by love.
Now there is time and Time is young.
O, in this single hour I live
All of myself and do not move.
I, the pursued, who madly ran,
Stand still, stand still, and stop the sun!

On The Outside Looking In

It's a cold and lonely place

on the outside looking in

There's a chill in my heart

as I look for you there

Trying to find a reflection

of how we used to be

I'm excluded and rejected

such a desolate place to be

How sad that you forget

all that we once shared

How long I would wait

in silence for you here

I had no expectations

it was just that I cared

I was always about 'feelings'

always about 'heart'

We had a long history

I was with you from the start

I gave you consolation

the warmth of my heart

Always there to listen

when you needed a friend

But you wrote the last words

on the page that said 'Goodbye'

Closed the book on me

and sent me away.

And showed me little understanding

in the end ...
