Lost in the Forest

Lost in the forest, I broke off a dark twig
and lifted its whisper to my thirsty lips:
maybe it was the whisper of the rain crying,
a cracked bell, or a torn heart.

Something from far off it seemed
deep and secret to me, hidden by the earth,
a shout muffled by huge autumns,
by the moist half-open darkness of the leaves.

Wakening from the dreaming forest there, the hazel- sprig
sang under my tongue, its drifting fragrance
climbed up through my conscious mind

As if suddenly the roots I had left behind
cried out to me, the land I had lost with my childhood---
and I stopped, wounded by the wandering scent.

Poem : Pablo Neruda

  10. Thank you Fiona dear, I am in a green and leafy state of mind lately and I thought this poem would be perfect.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed the images and thank you for your kind words, a few other people have likened my prose to that of Neruda and Rilke, to me that is the greatest of compliments.
My poems don't always rhyme or flow as I write the words from feelings, impressions, inspiration and most of all from my heart.

    Love and hugs, Dianne.

  12. Hello Pugsly my sweet, Pablo only broke off a twig, it's not like he broke off a whole branch, so I think he can be forgiven for that small mistake.
So, what were you doing in the forest may I ask? :)
