The Viewless Atoms of the Air

The viewless atoms of the air
Around me palpitate and burn,
All heaven dissolves in gold, and earth
Quivers with new found joy.
Floating on waves of harmony I hear
A stir of kisses, and a sweep of wings;
Mine eyelids close --"What pageant nears?"
" 'Tis Love that passes by!"

Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, 1836-1870, was a Spanish post-romanticist writer of poetry and short stories, now considered one of the most important figures in Spanish literature.

  2. Surely the trick is to catch it as it passes? Nice choice of words and picture, Dianne.

  5. very nice. at the NM summit we discussed a bit (or i did anyway) about how we are a mess of atoms bound together to make a shape of a human body and that other dimensions exist within that space simultaneously. Let mine be filled with golden light.

  8. I'm not too familiar with any sort of poetry from this time period...which is shameful. Thank you for the photo and the excursion into Spanish post-romantic poetry.

  11. Thank you dear J Cosmo , I am pleased that you enjoyed the poem and the image.
Yes, I guess the trick is to catch it and perhaps Señor Bêcquer was more successful in catching love as it passed by. Personally I find that love eludes me, no pageant here, no love passes by or comes close.

  14. Thanks dearest K9 for your thoughtul comment. Yes we are a mass of atoms bound together by electrostatic, ionic and covalent bonds into a sequence of complex molecules which make the human body.
Thankfully we live in and share the few dimensions in which we can perceive and appreciate the beauty of a multi dimensional Universe.
Yes let mine be filled with golden light also, that would make me very happy! :)

  17. Dear Olga , thank you for your thoughtful comment ... it is not shameful that you are not familiar with the poetry from this period. I was mostly familiar with the English poets but since I do love poetry I have discovered many beautiful poems and poets with my searches via the Internet. I have many beautiful poems scattered here on my blog by various poets including Pablo Neruda, Rainer Maria Rilke, e e cummings, Wordsworth and Byron. My favorite poem of Bêcquer, "Amid Obscure Shadows", is here ... also some of my better poems were written in earlier posts.

  18. Hello Phossy my sweet, nice to see you here. :)
No, I didn't take this beautiful photo and I would never stare directly at the sun. As the sun is above the clouds here this photo was most likely taken from an airplane or somewhere extremely high up.
