A tiny moon as small and white as a single jasmine flower
Leans all alone above my window, on night's wintry bower,
Liquid as lime-tree blossom, soft as brilliant water or rain
She shines, the first white love of my youth, passionless and in vain.
Leans all alone above my window, on night's wintry bower,
Liquid as lime-tree blossom, soft as brilliant water or rain
She shines, the first white love of my youth, passionless and in vain.
I have read another version of this poem, with the last line ending thus...
She shines, the one white love of my youth, which all sin cannot stain.
D.H. Lawrence
D H Lawrence is a name well-known among lovers of poetry, but from time to time a classic is in order! The idea of a first love, one that becomes idealised and lives on in
your heart forever on a pedestal, is a universal concept that Lawrence
sums up splendidly with “the one white love of my youth, which all sin
cannot stain.”

Wonderful thoughts indeed.

Dianne thank you very much!Besos!
Roger
Dearest Dianne!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you, the air temperature is 39 degrees Celsius

ReplyDeleteHello Dearest Friend
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought that you live in Norway and maybe Sweden.
Australia is a beautiful country but it is at the end of the world.
I know I will never see. It is very, very far away.
I am very happy that I can visit you and read your beautiful poems
on the blog.
I envy you the high summer temperatures. I love when it is very hot.
I do not like fall and winter.
Kisses and greetings from distant Polish.
Lucia
Thank you dear Juan for your kind words. These memories from so long ago do not make me sad, they are happy memories of my first love and we parted as friends.

Hello dear Lucia
ReplyDeleteThank you for both of your comments, yes I live in Australia which of course is a beautiful country in many ways but sometimes it feels like the far end of the Earth. The Summer days are wonderful when they are mild but when they rise above 35 degrees Celsius they are far too hot for my liking. I like our Autumn and Winter as the temperatures are mild.
It is too far away from everything especially the U.K. and Europe.
I am so pleased that you can visit me and that I can visit you via the Internet.
Kisses and greetings to you from so far away!
Dianne

“THERE was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,
ReplyDeleteThe earth, and every common sight,
To me did seem
Apparelled in celestial light,
The glory and the freshness of a dream.”

ReplyDeleteMerci pour vos mots gentils. Oui, la fleur de jasmin est très belle. Mon premier amour, il ya si longtemps, il est quelqu'un dont je me souviens avec émotion que nous nous sommes quittés comme des amis.

Thank you dear Giga for your message. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the link I left for the Main Square in Krakow, sadly I have not been there myself, my dear friend C.B. who visits here occasionally sent me the link. It is a very beautiful and grand place, featured in the film 'The Double Life of Veronique" and I was also able to see more of its beauty and other great destinations on a television documentary, Michael Portillo's "Great Continental Railway Journeys", I enjoyed it immensely.
ReplyDeleteKind regards

Thank you Steve Finnell for your message and the information it contained.

Thank you dearest one, dear C.B. for your visit and for these words from Wordsworth's great Ode, they are very beautiful, yet I add these words from stanza 4...
ReplyDelete"Whither is fled the visionary gleam?
Where is it now, the glory and the dream?"
Oh how life changes and disappoints.
Thank you also for the beautiful image of the Spring alpine flowers in the pasture in the Savoie region of France with views of Mont Blanc in the distance. Pastures where you have perhaps laid down and enjoyed the scent of the grasses, flowers, the beauty, whilst looking at the sky. How wonderful that would be.
I am so pleased that you have stopped by, the best surprise I have had for some time. I have missed you and wondered how you have been. Well, I hope? How is your film progressing?
Take care dear C.B.!
