The last leaves
of Winter
now russet in hue
linger on
Shining against
a sky of cool blue
catching the warmth
of the sun's dying rays
waiting for that calling song
of Winter's coldest breeze
To be swept along
on a merry dance
being swirled about
leaving life to chance
without any doubt
To be swept away
and scattered afar
and finally to rest . . .
completing this cycle of life
But a new beginning awaits
in Nature's Earthly plan . . .

Ohh.. so strange that you have this sleeping trees when over here they are full of green liver.
ReplyDeleteJust saw "Big Bang" The thirteenth and last episode of this years series with the Dr., I wait for your opinion, think we both have and will react in a similar way..
Very beautiful, I like it.
ReplyDeletethanx...
Summer has started here, so I guess winter has started there.
ReplyDeletePretty pictures.
i envy you there at Australia for enjoying winter while the sun is burning our skins in here.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and a very beautiful poem too.
I loved the expression "catching the warmth
of the sun's dying rays
Yes dear M , sleeping trees, you are more poetic than you realise my friend, there is still plenty of lovely green foliage on the Australian native trees but I suspect not as beautiful as those where you live.
ReplyDeleteI saw "The Lodger" last night, it was hilarious to see the Dr playing soccer; next week is the first part of the Pandorica and I think the final episode will be after that in two weeks. I shall be happy to give you my opinon ... I wish it didn't have to end so quickly, we will then have to wait for the Christmas special. xoxo ♡
Thank you dear Ruela
ReplyDeleteNice to see you again.
I'm so pleased that you liked my post ... as you can see I am not good at photography,I took these with my cell phone camera, I should practice more. :) xoxo ♡
Thank you dear Lil Lamby
ReplyDeletepleased you liked my photos.
I hope it is not too hot in Florida?
Yes Winter is here but it is not unbearably cold, only very chilly in early morning about 1ºC this morning and unlike yesterday the sun is shining and it is a nice temperature of about 15ºc, if the wind isn't blowing it is quite nice if you can find a sunny, sheltered spot outside.
xoxo ♡
Thank you dear Maha
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased that you enjoyed my poem and my photos ... it is nice how you notice my expressions, I try to be descriptive and write how I 'feel' the moments and the words.
I am sorry that it is so hot where you live,do you get any cooling breezes or refief from the heat at night?
I like warm days but after the heat of last summer which became unbearable at times I was looking forward to the cooler days and nights of Autumn and Winter.
xoxo ♡
very nice, dianne
ReplyDeletei trust that you winter
is short -- i know our summer is
love the poem -- excellent!

Thank you dear /t.
ReplyDeleteI am always thankful when you enjoy my poems.
I cannot complain too much about my winter, I am 34º south of the Equator and I live fairly close to the east coast so I have no heavy snow or blizzards in the area where I live.
I do hope that you are enjoying your summer, the prairie and coulee must be alive with green grasses, vegetation and many wildflowers.
xoxoxo ♡
your cell phone takes good pictures, dianne.
ReplyDeletei love the starkness of winter trees.
russet in hue ..
very lovely poem .. :)
i wouldn't even need the photographs to get a visual image through your words.
yep that is top stuff dianne..neil
ReplyDeleteWinter with no snow..must be cold there now..but still better than our hot sunny rainy days all year long here..
ReplyDeleteLovely poem. I'm glad you post garden pictures. It wakes my mind up to see the opposite season.
ReplyDeleteThank you dearest Foamy you are very kind, I am pleased that you enjoyed my poem and would have enjoyed my words without the photos.
ReplyDeleteThe coolness in the air, the cool blue colour of the sky, the clouds and the fading light shining on the russet leaves attracted my attention ... I notice so many things.
I had to sieze the moment so I quickly got my camera but the battery was flat so I used my cell phone, sometimes the photos it takes are surprising.
The words of the poem began to come to me soon after as I thought about how lovely the trees looked in this light. xoxoxo ♡
Thank you dear Neil that is very kind of you, I have seen some of your beautiful and imaginative prose at chickory's blog. xoxo ♡
ReplyDeleteNo dear HLiza , there is no snow where I live in Sydney, I'm too close to the east coast, occasionally we get hail and we do get some morning frosts. It is just cold enough to have to wear lots of warm clothes as the wind chill sends the temps lower.
ReplyDeleteYou must tire of the hot, sunny, rainy days all year, just as I dislike the really hot temperatures and humidity here in Summer... though sometimes I do wish it was summer. xoxoxo ♡
Thank you dear Kathleen , pleased that you liked my poem.
ReplyDeleteI love my trees and garden, they provide much inspiration, it is lovely to see the changes in colour of the foliage and sky throughout the seasons.
I don't have many flowers out in bloom at present, some geraniums which I love for their scented foliage and blooms and some hibiscus, so I have been enjoying looking at your lovely flowers and other garden postings.
xoxoxo ♡
Dianne,
ReplyDeletei love the feelings of your poem, they brush against me...each word in a leave-they fall with their stories....
While Winter visits you, the warm summer moves through the bark of the trees, the sweet smelling resins, bees and flowers and France glows after the rains.
Thank you dearest COL
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased that you loved the feelings I expressed in my poem.
Yes each leaf has lived a life from a small emerging green shoot in the Sprintime, to a glorious leaf of Summer, then changing in Autumn and finally Winter, its final transformation of the seasons and now its life as a leaf will come to an end, it knows this as it waits for the wind to carry it away, it is part of its story.
But its existence does not end here, a new journey begins where it will become a new form in its place in the cycle of nature.
It must be so lovely to be in France now, your words are so descriptive and beautiful I can almost feel the warmth and lose myself in the scent of the resins, tree bark and flowers. xoxoxo ♡
Why did I expect to see at least one Crocodile Dundee type in one of the trees with a rake? I need a vacation ...
ReplyDeleteNo Crocodile Dundee types around here Puggles my sweet, though there are a few 'rakes'.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a snake in my trees or in the grass for a couple of years.
I live too far south to have crocodiles in my garden thank goodness, the nearest one would be at the Sydney Aquarium.
I think France would be a great destination for a vacation. xoxo ♡
