This is one of the plants growing along the pathway, I think it is from the 'Westringia' family, though I am not sure. It has the most beautiful fragrance when you touch the foliage or brush against it, just like a mix of pineapple and passionfruit . . . tiny white flowers in Springtime.
Double white Petunia 'Simply Beautiful', in its new home in the garden. It has the most lovely fragrance and is perfect for growing in a hanging basket because of its cascading foliage.
The variegated leaves of the Canna Lily which I bought for Mothers Day, plus native grass and weeds . . . all garden volunteers welcome! This lily is called 'Tropicana Gold' and hopefully will have bright yellow/orange flowers in the summer.

i loooooooooooooove lavender. it's visually appealing to me plus it smells divine.
When you brush the foliage out here you usually come away with a bunch of spines stuck in you.

I spend a lot of time in my garden for that to me is my way of relaxing ... but it is hard work.
Sometimes I feel it is getting beyond me for parts of my garden which I haven't finished yet look like a wasteland and I don't have the energy to do as much as I would like.
I love the lavender, the flowers are so pretty and the perfume is lovely.
I cut it back every year when it gets too tall and hang the stems and flowers to dry to use in little scented muslin bags tied with ribbon to keep in drawers and for gifts.
I sometimes gather a bunch of the different kinds of scented foliage, like the lemon myrtle and tea tree and dry them and put them into pretty embroidered cotton bags, they are lovely for scenting the sheets and towels in the linen cupboard. xoxoxo ♡

What about some of the pretty succulents, some citrus trees, palms and some of the warm climate plants without thorns which you could enjoy?
You could have your very own green oasis in the desert, with some evergreen trees, palms and underplantings of lovely foliage plants. xoxoxo ♡

ReplyDeleteYes plants in hanging baskets can be a fatal choice, rest assured I have had some disasters as I forget to water them or water too much ... we shall see how long this petunia survives. :)
I did have a beautiful white carpet rose in a basket once but the possums took a liking to the buds and new foliage and eventually it died.
I think the secret is to choose hardy plants like spider plants or even succulents. xoxoxo ♡

ReplyDeleteThe attention that you give to nature is simply wonderful, i love making pictures of leaves and wild mountain flowers....i m not a gardener but i love to see the farmers leave their fields laboured, while on the other side the thick woods and forests beckons me for regular contemplation.

ReplyDeleteI try to be in tune with the natural ryhthms of Nature, we have so much to be grateful for and to protect.
I think where you live would be very beautiful with your wild mountain flowers and the beautiful trees of the Northern Hemisphere and you don't have to be a gardener to appreciate the beauty of Nature.
Forests are so important, trees are the 'lungs' of the Earth, and the atmospheric conditions in Rainforests are reponsible for seeding the clouds for regular rainfall.
Trees and forests are a soothing place for contemplation and yes the Spirit of the constellations can teach us much about peace and respect, the Earth is our responsibility and we must do more to protect it especially the forests and the oceans as they are our heritage and our future.
