somwehere i have never travelled, gladly beyond

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands.
e e cummings

  1. Wonder if E.E. Cummings is related to F.F. Goings? If they wrote a book together they could entitle it "Cummings and Goings." That would be funny!!!

  2. i'm vindicated! if e.e. cummings can write everything in small letters so can i. of course, he's a master and i really don't write. i love reading his poems consciously in my mind. it's not only about the words but about the sounds the words create when they flow together.

  3. Phossy dear friend
that is a very clever thought and very funny ... but where is the 'romantic' in you my dear? ♡

  4. Foamy my dear of course you can write everything in lower case, i think sometimes it looks nicer. :)

e e cummings certainly is a master, i first heard this poem in the film 'hannah and her sisters'and my dear friend Alexander reminded me of it when he posted the actual scene from the film where it is spoken.

it is a wonderful poem, his words flow,it is romantic and it is truly beautiful to me because of my perception of it and the memories that it stirs within me, especially the last stanza. ♡

  5. "...only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses" Its that line that I appreciated the most... the voice of your eyes. Eyes say so much dont they?!?!

  6. Thank you dear Helene , I love that line, eyes do say so much, their expression cannot lie, they betray our feelings for someone every time and when someone loves you it is difficult to disguise... memories... ♡

  7. Lovely roses, my Rose

IF eyes are the mirror of our soul
shouldn't we all expose our eyes
    in our profiles? ;-)

    Have a lovely week!

  9. Thanks Anna dear

yes that Phos is quite a funny character and we have seen him without his 'face gear' he was doing some kind of cooking segment, sorry I can't remember what it was, he has a lovely face. :-)

I'm pleased that you like the roses Anna, they are lovely and yes the eyes are the window to the soul or their expression can be very revealing...

I have my photo up there but you will have to enlarge it to see my eyes and know what I am thinking...
at the moment I am in a very reflective place in my life. :) ♡

  11. My roses are in bloom as well. The rain we had today may help bring more blossoms soon.

Sorry I don't visit more, part of it is I've been busy looking for work and part just plain lazy.

  12. It's always nice to see you Phossy dear, I know you are busy looking for work and I do hope you find something that will suit you very soon, good luck with that...I don't think you are lazy. :)

I had two of my roses in bloom but my favourite which has a pale orange flower has been pruned to within half an inch of the soil by the white cockatoos...they are very destructive...just as well I took a photo when it was still in tact.
I wish we could get some rain it is so hot and dry here at present the temperature most days is in the 90's...I hope you get more roses, there is nothing like rain to bring forth more flowers and new growth. ♡

  14. Cockatoos? Think I have a recipe for those somewhere...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes Phossy dear
    Sulphur Crested Cockatoos!
I think you would have to slow cook them as I think any meat on them would be very tough. ;)
Is that the recipe where you boil them in a pot with vegetables and a rock and after a day or so you throw out the bird? :) ♡

  18. Thank you dear Alexander , I have had a lovely day, after I returned from the hospital I watered some of my garden and then sat amongst my feathered friends while they chirped and warbled giving me their approval of the seed and fruit with which I fed them...then they just stayed around and kept me company which was nice. ♡

  19. Sweet Dianne

Yes, it is a beautiful package ;-)

Thanks for Your thoughts (and I am thinking of You know as I write), to be true, I am kind of frustrated due to the lack of engagement on our Climate problems and that I myself can´t do more ... still, I hope, I hope and act as good as I can to make this world a better and safer place, for all.

  21. I would be completely freaked out if the rain DID have small hands.

  22. The poet is being romantic Puggles my sweet, I think it is a metaphor for the beauty and daintiness of his loves hands. ♡
